About the Instructor


As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, Atsuko Nakanishi serves as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. An at-home study plan is created in addition to classroom assignments in order to address your child's needs. Kumon emphasizes the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This helps students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, Atsuko Nakanishi has a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

Atsuko Nakanishi is the Director and Head Instructor at the West Lafayette Kumon Center.  Originally from Osaka, Japan, Atsuko has been involved in Kumon since she was a little girl, as one of Toru Kumon's original students.  She opened the West Lafayette Kumon Center in 1988 and has been teaching children throughout the Greater Lafayette community ever since.

Training and Certification

Kumon Instructors are trained and certified through a comprehensive system which ensures that they offer the best in Kumon instruction to each students.  Homework and class work are carefully assessed for speed and accuracy to maintain the right level of challenge and to ensure that mastery is attained as each new skill is introduced.  Kumon Instructors work very closely with each individual student and his or her family to create the best study plan possible for the students, whether the need is for remedial help or for advanced study.
