Husband and wife team, Peter and Diane Oberthaler, are the instructors at the Kumon Center of Wichita-East. Peter is the Math Instructor and Diane is the Reading Instructor. Peter and Diane first learned about Kumon when they lived in Indiana. Neighbors told them of the program and about the great results their children had achieved. Peter and Diane enrolled their own children in the math program and saw it work wonders on their math and study skills. (In fact, all four of their children achieved mastery of high school level math before reaching high school.) When they moved to Wichita, they discovered that Kumon was not available. Their desire to continue their children in the Kumon program led Peter to train as a Kumon Instructor and resulted in the opening of the first Kumon Math Center in Wichita in 1996. In 2008, with her own children grown, Diane decided the time was right to pursue training to become a Kumon Reading Instructor. In the Spring of 2009, Peter and Diane were pleased to begin offering the Kumon Reading program at their Center.
As extensively trained and certified professional instructors, Peter and Diane serve as mentors who guide your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. We create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and we emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of their students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, both Peter and Diane have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.
