About the Instructor

Introduction

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

Ms. Shah is the Math Instructor and Ms. Bisram is the Reading Instructor of the Astoria-South Center.  They both attended Hunter College where Ms. Shah earned a B.A. in History Language Arts.  Ms. Bisram earned a B.A. in Elementary Education and English Language Arts. She also earned a Masters degree in Math and Science Education and holds a teaching certificate in Elementary Education.

They decided to open their own center because of their belief in the Kumon Method of learning, which was due to working in a Kumon Center for over five years.  There they observed and worked with students of various ages and ability whose self-confidence, self-discipline, and love of learning helped them achieve more on their own.

As Co-Instructors their goal for the Astoria-South Center is to give all students the opportunity to efficiently use the Kumon Method of learning in order to utilize its many benefits in their daily life.
