About Your Instructor
Arlene McRoberts
I'm the owner and lead instructor of the Kumon Center in Atascadero. My journey with Kumon began not just as an educator, but as a firm believer in its transformative power—a belief rooted deeply in my own experiences and observations.
From a young age, I've always been drawn to the logic and clarity of mathematics and the expressive power of language. This passion eventually led me to a career in education, where I sought to inspire the same love for learning in others. However, I often observed that traditional educational methods, while effective for many, didn't always cater to every student's unique pace and needs. I saw bright students struggle with foundational concepts and others become disengaged when not sufficiently challenged.
This is where Kumon entered my life. I was introduced to the program and immediately recognized its potential. The Kumon Method, with its emphasis on individualized learning, daily practice, and mastery of concepts before moving on, resonated deeply with my educational philosophy. It wasn't about rote memorization but about building true understanding and self-learning abilities.
My personal connection to the Atascadero Kumon Center runs deep. From 2020 to 2024, I had an incredible opportunity to train directly under Kyoko Ellis, the previous owner and a true mentor to me. For 32 remarkable years, Kyoko was the sole provider of Kumon in San Luis Obispo County, building a legacy of academic excellence and profound positive impact on countless students' lives. She not only taught me the intricacies of the Kumon Method but also instilled in me the profound responsibility that comes with nurturing young minds. When she entrusted me with her legacy and the future of the Atascadero center in 2024, it was an honor I took very seriously. I am committed to upholding the high standards of excellence she established and continuing her dedication to our students.
At Kumon Atascadero, our dedicated team and I are committed to creating a nurturing and challenging environment where every child can reach their full potential. We believe in celebrating every small victory and guiding students through every challenge, helping them discover that with consistent effort, anything is possible. We've witnessed countless success stories, from struggling students blossoming into confident learners to reluctant readers devouring books. These transformations are not just about academic scores; they are about fostering a love for learning that extends far beyond the classroom.
My autobiography with Kumon Atascadero is still being written, day by day, with every student who walks through our doors. It's a story of dedication, growth, and the unwavering belief that education is the most powerful tool we can give to our children.
