About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to the Kumon of Bath Beach.

For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program, click here.

Hours of Operation:

Wednesdays: 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Sundays: 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

All Kumon students are coming to classes according to their scheduled time. One-subject students attend class for approximately 30 minutes. Two-subject students attend class for approximately 1 hour. Please keep in mind this time may vary depending on a student’s level, age and the amount of worksheets assigned. In order to maintain the classroom atmosphere safe and productive to study, we request that only students enter the Kumon Center.

Tuition Fees:

1 Subject (Math or Reading): $180 per month

2 Subjects (Math and Reading): $360 per month.

Registration Fee: $60 at time of the enrollment.

The first month and the enrollment fee are due at the time of the enrollment. We accept checks, cash, electronic payments through Quickpay/Zelle. Monthly tuition is due by the 1st of each month. If payments are received after the 1st of the current month, a late fee of $15 must be included with your payment. For any returned checks, a fee of $15 will be charged and the monthly fee must be paid in cash for that month.

If you register in the middle of the month, the tuition for the half of the month is due.

Center Calendar:

Class attendance is a vital part of the Kumon program. Observing students at work in class assists greatly in the planning process for each student. We also prefer to introduce new concepts in class so we may assist your child in reaching his/her Kumon goals.

Kumon is a year-round program of study. We are closed only if classes fall on the following days: December 31st (New Year Eve), January 1st, and July 4th (Independence Day). Any additional or specific dates of center closings will be posted on the entrance door and all families will be notified via text. Kumon homework is assigned for all days between sessions unless otherwise requested at the time of registration or at least one week prior to any adjustment request.

Absence Policy:

Parents are encouraged to inform the Kumon Instructor about any planned vacation so that a student's lesson plan can be adjusted. We advise that students do not take any breaks from their regular Kumon routines on long trips. Students may be absent from Kumon study for one month without re-registering. If the student is absent for two or more months, a new registration fee of $60 will be charged (*this is a national policy for all students). A student who, for whatever reason, does not attend classes and takes no Kumon materials in a given month, but who plans to resume Kumon study is still considered absent. An absent student is considered discontinued after two or more consecutive months of absence. If a discontinued student resumes Kumon study, the suggested registration fee will be charged again. After six months of being absent, a student might take a new placement test.

Workload:

Each student must return his/her completed homework on the class day. On class days, students complete new class work and after grading (and corrections if needed), the worksheets are given back to the students. The Instructor determines the number of worksheets assigned. It is important that a student is given the appropriate level and the amount of work. Parental feedback regarding student’s homework is always welcome. Please contact the center one day before or on the day of attendance of the class to discuss any adjustments or concerns regarding your child’s Kumon study plan. An adjustment to the workload is the discretion of the Instructor.

Makeup Sessions:

Only 1 (one) make up session can be provided within a current month. You can also ask for a Zoom session instead of in-person class if your child is sick or absent (*if we have available sessions on the schedule for that day).

Regular and monthly Kumon information/updates are sent to Kumon parents via text. You may request a meeting at any time to discuss your child’s progress. Please note that meetings will not be scheduled during class time. You can schedule an appointment to talk to the Instructor by sending a text message or making a phone call. We welcome your feedback. Never hesitate to ask questions, share concerns, or generally let us know how everything is going.
