Introduction

Welcome to Kumon Math and Reading Center of Carle Place!

At Kumon Math and Reading Center of Carle Place, our mission is to provide an individualized learning program designed to help preschool - high school students become self-learners as they master math and reading skills and develop into confident, independent, and self-reliant people.

Our vision is to be the supplemental education provider of choice for Carle Place, Westbury, and surrounding communities by helping every child reach their potential through implementing the Kumon Method.

For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn independently. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up, or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

At Kumon Math and Reading Center of Carle Place, students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated, and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program, please click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program, please click here.

Policies

What is included in Kumon of Carle Place Membership Fees?

  • An individualized lesson plan prepared by the Center Director based on the student’s diagnostic test results. The lesson plan is revised frequently based on the student’s performance to keep them working at a level that is “just right” for them.
  • An individualized study projection prepared by the Center Director that shows how much we can achieve together(assuming homework is completed daily) over the next 12 months in the program.
  • Students complete the Kumon worksheets at the Center under the supervision of qualified Kumon of Carle Place Assistants and the Center Director twice per week and receive assignments to complete independently at home the other days. Homework is just as important as classwork!
  • Study revolves around the Kumon worksheets. The Kumon worksheets have been effective for millions of children around the world. They have been carefully designed and relentlessly fine-tuned. The worksheets help make Kumon a learning program like no other and are the key to the Kumon Method and your child’s success.
  • Students can borrow books from Kumon of Carle Place’s library which contains literature from Kumon’s Recommended Reading List. The Reading program worksheets contain excerpts from many of these popular books.
  • Access to Kumon’s industry leading Kumon Connect application which allows students to complete their work on their personal iPad or other compatible tablet.
  • Grading and recording of all homework and classwork assignments. Homework is graded and returned to students for correction (within 24 hours for Kumon Connect students or at the next class session for paper worksheet students).
  • Achievement Tests at the end of each level to confirm the student’s understanding of the materials. Students receive a certificate when they successfully complete each level.
  • Access to Kumon of Carle Place’s Early Learner Program (for students 3-5 years of age) where students work directly with a qualified assistant to learn the fundamentals of reading and/or math.

Homework:

  • Completed homework must be brought to each class session. Homework that is not completed and brought to class will be reassigned as classwork. Students should write their name, date, start time and end time on the first page of each assignment.
  • Answer books are available for home grading. Home grading promotes consistent study and provides immediate feedback which helps the student to progress more quickly and smoothly. Parents are required to home-grade for students who attend virtual sessions over zoom and use paper worksheets.
  • Additional parental involvement is required for Math levels 6A-4A and Reading levels 7A-3A.

Attendance:

  • Students should attend two sessions per week and complete practice at home the other five days.
  • Each subject session will last 30 minutes – OR – cover all worksheet pages assigned in the lesson plan for that day (including grading and corrections) – whichever is shorter.
  • All sessions must be scheduled in advance. There are no makeups.
  • Please contact the instructor via the BAND app prior to class hours if your child will be absent and arrange for the work to be picked up.
  • Students must arrive at least 30 minutes prior to center closing time (60 minutes if enrolled in both subjects).
  • If a student is late for a scheduled session, they may need to finish their work at home so that the students scheduled after them can begin their session on time.
  • Kumon policy allows for one month of absence per student per calendar year. If a child is absent for a second month in a calendar year, that child is considered to have discontinued from the program and will be required to re-enroll with a new registration fee payment due.
  • No cell phones, tablets, games, music, food or drinks (except water) are permitted in the classroom area.

Note to Parents:

  • Parents should wait for their children in the waiting area. Please do not enter the classroom area. Parents of children who are 7 years old or younger should remain in the waiting area in case their child needs them.
  • During class hours I must devote my attention to instructing the students and observing the classroom. If you would like to discuss your child’s progress, please schedule an appointment during non-class hours. I cannot have these conversations during class hours. Thank you for understanding.
  • Kumon of Carle Place will be closed for one week in Winter or Spring, one week in July, and on major holidays and holiday weekends. See https://www.kumon.com/carle-place for holiday schedule. Students will be given work so they can practice at home but there will be no classes during these days.
  • Kumon of Carle Place does not guarantee a certain number of class sessions each month.  We do not charge less for months with fewer that seven sessions or more for months with more that eight sessions.
  • Remember, you're paying for membership in a program, not individual tutoring sessions!
