About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to our Kumon Math and Reading Center. For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program.

Class Schedule

  • Our class hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 3pm-7pm.
  • Class hours have been adjusted to make accomodations for virtual learning.
  • Speak to the instructor to schedule a time for classes.
  • Each scheduled session is approximately 20-30 minutes per subject.
  • All Kumon students are recommended to attend two scheduled sessions per week.
  • Students who are late to their scheduled session by more than 10 minutes will need to pick up their class work and exchange their homework only

Center Study Session
  • Parents must wait for their child in the parent waiting room.
  • No cell phones, games, music, food or drinks are permitted in the Kumon Center.
  • Once students have completed their work and have their homework, they will be released from the classroom area.
  • Once students have left the classroom, center staff members are NOT able to supervise the waiting children. We are not licensed or insured as a daycare or babysitting service.

Student Expectations
  • Kumon students are expected to:
  • Work quietly and not disturb other students.
  • Be respectful of the center property. Be neat and clear on all Kumon work.
  • We expect our students to come to class with all of their Kumon homework 100% complete, along with all mistakes corrected.
  • Students who come to class with work that is incomplete must complete all of it before being assigned new work.
  • A part of the Kumon experience is to develop a high standard of discipline, and neat work is essential to that development.
  • Properly label all work, whether in the classroom or at home, with student name, date, start time, and finish time.

Parent Expectations
  • In order for students to obtain the most optimal experience from Kumon, parents' involvement is necessary.
  • Along with the Instructor and center staff, parents should support students and praise their achievements.
  • Parents are expected and encouraged to maintain strong communication, and also help students by doing homegrading.

Parent Communication
  • Because classroom time is devoted to student instruction and promoting independent study skills, parents should reserve entering the classroom for imperative situations only.
  • We welcome communication and encourage parents to ask questions about their child’s progress.
  • Call or email the center during office hours to talk to the Kumon Instructor, to schedule a meeting, or parent conference.
  • Our office hours are: 10am-2pm Monday through Thursday, by appointment.
  • Messages will be checked at the end of class and phone calls returned within 24 hours. Messages received on the weekend will be answered within 48 hours.
  • Parent conferences will be available approximately 2 times a year (parents will be notified 3-4 weeks in advance) to discuss student development and progress goals.

Homegrading
  • Parents are highly encouraged to home grade students’ work so that students can correct any mistakes immediately.
  • Parents will be given appropriate answer keys.
  • Answer keys will be exchanged when students take achievement tests to move onto the next level.
  • Homegrading takes approximately 5 minutes each day, yet the benefits are long-term.
  • Students can learn from their errors right away and therefore not repeat them in future assignments.
  • Homegrading also helps parents become aware of their child’s strengths and weaknesses.

Tuition Payment
  • We accept cash, check, and EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer).
  • We do not accept credit/debit cards.
  • Checks should be made payable to Siddisee Hirpa or Mindful Learning NC, LLC
  • Tuition is non-refundable once a student has started receiving work assignments for the month.
  • If payments are received after the 5th of the month, a $20 late fee must be included in your payment.
  • A $25 fee will be charged for returned checks and insufficient funds.
  • Upon enrollment, your registration and material fees, and first and last months tuitions are due. Tuition is processed on the 1st of the month. For example, tuition for January is charged on January 1st.
  • Kumon tuition fees are subject to change with 30 days notice.
  • If you wish to discontinue from Kumon, you must let us know in writing by the 5th of the current month to stop payment for the following month. Failure to receive such notice will result in continued charges to your account. Your account will remain open and active until written notice is received.

Vacation/Absence Policy
  • Each student will have work planned every day during their enrollment at Kumon.
  • Kumon homework is carefully planned to reinforce and strengthen the development of concentration, endurance, and independence.
  • Please call or email the center prior to class if your child will be absent and arrange for work to be picked up.
  • If we receive notice during or after classroom hours, the work will be ready for collection the following day.
  • Completed work should also be dropped off so that the Instructor can evaluate and review student progress.
  • Please give one week notice prior to a vacation to ensure that your child’s Kumon work is prepared in advance.
  • We cannot guarantee that work will be prepared on time if enough advance notice is not given.
  • There are no makeup sessions.
  • Kumon is a year-round program. Students absent more than one month during a calendar year must be re-registered and pay the registration fee to resume Kumon study.
  • All students are allowed one 30 day break per calendar year. If you wish to take this break, you must let us know in writing by the 5th of the current month to stop payment for the following month. Failure to receive such notice will result in continued charges to your account.
