About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to our Kumon Math and Reading Center. For more than 50 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program, click here.

Policies

Kumon Center of Denver - University Hills Policies and Procedures

CLASS SCHEDULE:

Students are scheduled to attend the center twice each week in thirty minute time slots. Dual-subject students are scheduled for one hour time slots. It is important to keep in mind that this time may vary (short/long) depending on the student’s level, age, and the worksheets assigned.  You can choose the time slot most comfortable for you. Please attend at your scheduled time. If you do not arrive on time, you may be asked to pick up work for the day.

CONTINUITY:

Kumon is a year-round program of daily study. Continued advancement is a result of consistent study, which also fosters commitment, dedication and perseverance.   For those students on holiday, the program is portable and with notice homework packages may easily be taken on vacation.

  • For best results, students should expect to remain in the program year round; including the summer months and should include summer study in their plans.

CLASS ATTENDANCE:

Class attendance is a vital part of the Kumon program. Observing students at work in class assists greatly in the planning process for that student. Introducing new concepts in class is preferred so we may assist your child in reaching his/her Kumon goals.

  • If a student is unable to attend class, please give 48 hours of notice to make adjustments to the student’s plan and prepare the work for pick-up.

ABSENCE POLICY:

A student is considered "discontinued" in the program after two consecutive months of absence.  The registration fee of $50 is required for re-enrollment in the program and the student will be re-tested

VACATION AND HOLIDAYS:

Please give 48 hour notice of any planned absences so that we can prepare assignments for your child’s absence.  Students will pick up work on the center day prior to their absence.

CLASS RULES:

  • Students are required to behave in a respectful manner at the Kumon center – in class and the parent waiting area. This includes using good manners, a quiet voice and not being unruly.

  • It is always important to remember that students are studying and their time here must be respected. Students who are unable to follow the rules will be asked to leave the class in order to maintain the learning environment.

  • In order to maintain an atmosphere conducive to study we request that only students enter the Kumon Room.  The only time the instructor is not available is during center hours, as the Instructor needs to use class time as observation opportunities to help monitor your child’s progress. Hence, parents are asked to remain in the waiting area while the class is in session.

  • Please note that personal electronic devices and toys are NOT allowed in the classroom.

  • Due to allergies and sensitivities, NO FOOD OR DRINKS are allowed in the classroom.

  • Parents of Early Learner students (pre-Gr1) are required to wait in the center for the entire time that their child is attending class.

  • If you leave the center, ensure that you return before your child’s class work is completed – you remain in full guardianship of your child.  We cannot account for your child’s whereabouts once he/she has left the classroom/student area.

COMMUNICATION:

Success in Kumon requires pro-active communication on the part of the student, the parent, and the instructor. If you have any particular concerns about your child’s progress, the Kumon method, or anything else that the instructor may be able to help you with, please do not hesitate to call or email the center.

  • Planned center closures are announced in the center.  A notice will also be posted in the Parent Waiting Area.  Generally, the center is closed on statutory holiday, long weekends as well as winter break.

HOME-GRADING:

Parents must home grade all Kumon homework. All Kumon work must be dated, timed, and graded and then any mistakes must be corrected.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and commitment to developing your child’s potential.
