About Your Instructor
MAUREEN UYEDA
Hello, my name is Maureen Uyeda and I am the instructor at the Kumon Math and Reading Center at Ewa Beach – Ocean Pointe. After teaching in some of the public schools in Ewa Beach, I was drawn to open a Kumon Center because of my passion for education and my belief in the Kumon method.
As a mother and grandmother, I enjoy working with students and am dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment. Since becoming a Kumon franchise owner and instructor, I have been given me the opportunity to work with a wide variety of students and I have enjoyed every minute of it.
In a unique and intriguingly challenging way, the method builds a strong foundation of critical Math and Reading concepts and develops the even more important life skill of being able to self-learn, through the worksheets. Children are taught to master concepts and build on their knowledge with problems and homework sets that uses what they have previously learned and gradually builds so that they experience and discover how to figure things out on their own.
What I appreciate about the program, is that I am able to individualize the lessons and see students achieve levels well beyond their grade level and feel a strong sense of accomplishment, while ultimately reaching their own goals. While it does take commitment, like anything else, those that do make it a daily habit to do their 20-30 minutes per day: build their confidence tenfold, benefit in many other areas of their lives, and they become very driven to take on all types of challenges. Seeing preschoolers learn to count or to recognize and say letter sounds and watching them reach algebra as elementary students has been very fulfilling!
