About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to our Kumon Math and Reading Center of Huntersville - North!

For more than 60 years, the Kumon after-school academic enrichment program has been helping children achieve success worldwide. Our Kumon Center strives for the same success, motivating all of our students to perform at their highest potential. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve more, a love of learning and the motivation to learn on their own. Kumon goes beyond tutoring - read more to find out the differences.

Mission Statement

We believe in the tremendous potential of young minds, and our mission is to provide the opportunity to develop this potential in as many children as possible. By providing quality Kumon instruction in an encouraging environment, we will build a strong academic foundation in children of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, to create passionate, disciplined, and confident learners.

Our primary purpose is to expose children in the community to the Kumon method, to develop a strong foundation in math and reading, as well as the confidence, motivation and love of learning that is critical to success in school and beyond.

Kumon goes beyond tutoring. It differs from tutoring in the following ways:

1. Tutoring may not get to the root of the problem, though it may fix an immediate need.

2. Kumon identifies where your child's learning started to fall behind.

3. Tutoring is passive learning. Kumon teaches self-learning.

4. Tutoring ends when a child catches up. Kumon keeps them advancing.

5. Kumon is an ongoing learning enrichment program, rather than a tutoring program.

Center Calendar

Kumon is a year-round program of study and work is assigned for all days unless otherwise requested at the time of registration or at least one week prior to any adjustment request. Holidays and closings will be communicated ahead of time, and work will be assigned prior to closing.

Class Attendance Days

Center work is a vital part of your child's Kumon Program. Observing and listening to students greatly assists the instructor with lesson planning for your child. We also prefer to introduce new concepts during center days so that we may better assist your child in reaching his or her Kumon goals.

Parent Involvement

Kumon is a three-way partnership between the student, the parent and the instructor. It is critical that all three parties satisfy their responsibilities in order to ensure smooth progress.

Center Etiquette

In order to maintain an atmosphere conducive to study, we request that only students enter the study room. Students should remain quiet in the study room, and should leave their iPad's, cell phones and electronic games in the waiting room or turned off in their backpacks.
