Kumon Curriculum
Kumon’s Math and Reading program is a long-term program and not a quick fix. The student’s progress is directly tied to consistent class attendance and consistent homework completion.
Class Sessions
Students attend class twice a week. Students will typically spend 20 – 40 minutes per class, per subject. Class length will fluctuate depending on the assignment, difficulty of the concept, and homework corrections.
Class Hours: There are 3 options available to choose:
Option 1: Monday and Thursday: 3:00, 3:30, 4:00, 4:30, 5:00, 5:30, 6:00, 6:30
Option 2: Tuesday and Friday: 3:00, 3:30, 4:00, 4:30, 5:00, 5:30, 6:00, 6:30
Option 3: Wednesday: 3:00, 3:30, 4:00, 4:30, 5:00, 5:30, 6:00, 6:30
Saturday: 1:00, 1:30, 2:00, 2:30, 3:00, 3:30
Missed Classes/Vacations
Families are allowed up to 2 make up classes per month. Please notify me ahead of time if you decide to make up a class along with your preferred day/time. If you are unable to attend class, please let us know and we can give you extra work or set aside work for you to pick up.
If you will be out of town, please let us know at least one week in advance so we can prepare the work for you. It may be tempting to stop Kumon during vacations, but usually this results in major learning loss and having to back-track upon return.
Homework
Students are assigned homework for the 5 days they are not at the center. Please ensure your student completes the assignment for that date (the date will be written for them).
Homework should be done every day and should take between 15 – 30 minutes per day, per subject. For EL students, this may be shorter. Progress in this program is directly tied to consistent homework completion.
Tuition/Fees
Tuition is due by the 3rd of every month via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). Cash is accepted if paid for 6 months at a time in advance.
Cancellation/Absence Policy
If you decide to cancel the program, written notice is required at least 30 days before the effective date. No refunds are given for unattended classes or missed/unfinished homework.
Students are allowed a one month absence over the course of a calendar year. If you are absent for more than 2 months total per calendar year and wish to re-enroll your child(ren), the registration and materials fees will be charged.
Parent Questions/Conferences
During class time, my primary focus is to instruct and observe students. To ensure that all students receive proper observation and instruction, I am unable to attend to most questions and requests.
Parent conferences are available by appointment, outside of class hours. To schedule a meeting, please email me. For any questions, schedule changes, or other requests, please notify the assistant at the front desk.
Notice to Parents
Kumon of Hayward - Sorenson is not a day-care center. Center staff members are not able to supervise waiting children. We do not provide childcare services. Parents and guardians are advised that each child’s study session varies in length according to the time it takes to complete the day’s assignment. If, in the parent’s or guardian’s determination, a child is not old enough to go to and from the Center on his/her own, the parent/guardian is responsible for ensuring that any child stays on the premises.
Parents/Guardians of pre-Kindergarten students are required to remain at the Center while their children are in class. The parent/guardian shall be liable for any damages and injuries caused by their child to other persons and the parent agrees to hold harmless, defend and indemnify Kumon North America, Inc., and its Instructors. The Instructor is not liable for any Kumon student outside the Center facility before or after the student leaves the Center.
