About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Lilburn-Five Forks Trickum!

We are located in the Five Forks Shopping Plaza, located at Five Forks Trickum Rd. SW and Killian Hill Rd.

For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. Certified Kumon Instructor Sneha Issani and her staff strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

Please know that we are an enrichment program. We are not tutoring. Enrichment will help your child fill in knowledge gaps and help them gain the confidence they deserve. We strive for the children to be independent learners, while tutoring is one on one.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. Click for more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. Click for more information about the Kumon Reading Program, click here.

Information on the Kumon Program

  • Kumon worksheets must be completed and timed daily.
  • The work in the beginning will be easy. We start at the comfortable starting point to ensure the students have a smooth transition, please keep in mind that we are not tutoring.
  • Kumon students are expected to attend the center on all scheduled days.
  • The program is designed to help children develop their abilities regardless of their current academic assessment. We provide ample practice through repetition, with a focus on mastery. Each lesson plan is individualized instruction, so no two students will have the same lesson plan.
  • You are paying for the worksheets, not the time.
  • Kumon is a triangle method. We all have to work together to communicate and make sure we have all our homework and classwork done on time.

Tuition

  • Tuition shall be paid by an automatic EFT charge from your checking account. Tuition is processed on the 1st of the month or the following business day. It is a flat fee, regardless of the amount of work taken or the number of classes attended (ex. If you start Dec 9 - you are paying for the whole month, the next payment is due Jan 1).
  • No exceptions are made to paying automatic debit. We want to devote our time to our students rather than to the collection of tuition.
  • Tuition is $160 per subject per month per student. There is a one-time registration fee of $80 per student and a one-time $30 materials fee per student.
  • If you wish to discontinue your child’s study, we require a written notice at least a month prior to when you wish to stop services. There are NO exceptions. We may provide up to a 5 day grace period for the 1 month notice. (ex. If you want to discontinue for December, you must submit your notice by approximately the 5th of November at the latest).

Center Attendance

  • Students attend Kumon classes twice a week for approximately 15-20 minutes per subject. Students may finish early or may need extra time. Tuition is charged for the individualized instruction and materials received, not for minutes or hours spent in the center. You will receive worksheets for every day, but there are no refunds for missed classes or work.
  • If a student is absent or cannot make it to class, please let us know, and I will keep the work ready for you to pick up. There are no make up sessions.
  • Students should arrive at the center at their scheduled appointment time. Students arriving outside of their scheduled appointment time will have to wait for an available opening or pick up work for that day.
  • Center attendance is very important for instructor observation of students to determine their individualized lesson plan and their “just-right level”. Students are expected to work independently at the center as they do at home.
  • If you know that a class will be missed, please call the center prior to the end of class at 7:00 PM to request to pick up the work. Absent student’s work will be placed outside on the front door and will remain there for you to pick up at your convenience.
  • If, for any reason, homework is not completed, please bring any unfinished assignments to class, so that homework can be reassigned.
  • The center is designed to provide the ideal study environment for students to complete assignments. Student behavior should adhere to keeping this ideal study environment. Students must not disrupt other students.
  • Please be available to pick up your child when he/she finishes their classwork and leaves the classroom. There will be no one on duty to supervise them after they leave the classroom.

Center Closings

  • Kumon of Five Forks Trickum is open throughout the year, with the exception of the closure/holiday schedule (GCPS), but your child will still receive work for that time period. (You will receive advance notice of closures via e-mail and signs posted in the waiting area)
  • Kumon of Five Forks Trickum will also be closed if The Gwinnett County School District closes due to inclement weather, holidays such as Christmas or Thanksgiving Break, or other emergencies. There is no prorated tuition as you are paying for the month of worksheets.

Vacation

  • Kumon works best when study is year-round. We strongly discourage leaves of absence from the program.
  • Kumon allows for one calendar month of absence without penalty. Vacation must be for an entire calendar month.
  • If you wish to take a one-month vacation from Kumon, we require a notice 14 days before the 1st of the month you wish to take a break.
  • The center is closed for major holidays. Enough work to cover the holidays is always provided.

Communicating with Center Staff

  • You are always welcome to call or e-mail during non-class hours (Before 3:00 PM or after 5:30 PM)
  • We will reach out to you in a timely manner. Please be patient as it is a classroom setting and we have a lot of children to observe.
  • The Instructor needs to focus on the students and cannot address parent questions during class time.
  • Please check your child’s Kumon bag for notices from the center.
