About Your Instructor
MITSURU PARKER
I opened my Kumon center in June 2004. Prior to becoming a Kumon Instructor, I received a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Washington, after which I worked in both the public and the private sectors of accounting for over a decade. I was working as a CFO of a multinational company when the opportunity presented itself to have my own Kumon Center. However, my Kumon journey truly started when I enrolled my daughter at the very center that later became my own. As a Kumon parent I was horrible at it, but that experience along with over 16 years as an instructor gives me a better understanding of what each parent is going through, and I can truly relate to them and offer advice to help them with their own Kumon journey.
My daughter’s progress and accomplishments made me a true believer of the Kumon Method, and I consider being an instructor, and helping each student that comes through my door fulfill their potential, as my life’s work. Each student has helped me gain a deeper understanding of Kumon as well as a greater appreciation for its benefits.
Nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing my students go out into the world with solid academic skills as well as the life skills they have acquired through their time at my center. My students have been admitted to Harvard, Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins, Duke, NYU, UN Chapel Hill, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, and Emory - to name a few.
As I continue my journey into and beyond my 20th year, I always keep the words of our founder, Mr. Toru Kumon’s words as my mantra, “There is always something better,” and strive to become a better instructor for my students every day.
