About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to our Kumon Math and Reading Center. For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program, click here.

KUMON CENTER POLICIES

ENSURE THEEFFECTIVENESS OF THE KUMON METHOD (DAILY STUDY AND ATTENDANCE)

TO BENEFIT FULLYFROM THE KUMON METHOD,

Students should:

•Attend each session on Monday and Wednesday between 3:00 pm and 6:30pm. Class sessions are typically 30 minutes per subject.
•Study on a daily basis per Instructor’s directions. Avoid skipping days and doing multiple days at once. Daily study is a tenet of the Kumon Method. Doing multiple days’ work at once will decrease the likelihood of retaining material and may result in repetition of materials.
•Return completed homework including corrections, as well as incomplete worksheets, if any, to allow the Instructor to evaluate and plan each student’s work. Such individualization is what sets Kumon apart from a regular school curriculum.
•Study year-round even during summer and winter breaks.

Parents should:
•Encourage their children to study consistently and ensure homework assignments are accurately timed and completed. Parents are responsible for monitoring the completion of work at home.
•Home grade students’ work if possible. This daily correction is highly encouraged as it will give your child immediate feedback and will help your child progress more quickly and smoothly through the program. Please seethe Instructor for home grader training and answer books. Keep answer books out of reach of children who do not yet have the maturity to study using the answer books (i.e. copying answers from them).
•Provide praise and positive reinforcement.
•Inform the Instructor in advance (at minimum, by the morning before class) if your child is unable to attend a session and arrange to obtain his/her daily assignments (with the understanding that make-up assignments are not provided).
•Pick up missed work when an absence is unexpected. If work is not picked up, this assignment will be moved to the next class. Therefore, it is important that work is picked up to avoid falling behind in the curriculum. Parents may also turn in any completed work at this time.
•Communicate with the Instructor regarding your child’s progress. This includes if the child is regularly unable to complete his/her work daily.
•Allow ample time for children to complete their work in class and at home. Again, this is typically 30-60 minutes depending on subject number, but some children may require additional time.
