Mission Statement

We, at the Kumon Math & Reading Center of Novi - West, believe a strong foundation is essential to academic and personal success. Our mission is to provide children in our local community with an opportunity to build and master foundational skills in the areas of math and reading while developing complementary study and time management skills vital for future success in our global economy.

At Kumon of Novi - West, it is our goal to develop your child's learning confidence by ensuring he or she has mastery of the curriculum and a strong foundation prior to moving on to more challenging concepts. Our reading program is all encompassing, including fluency, comprehension, and writing skills from simple to complex material in fiction and non-fiction. Kumon of Novi - West also develops focus, concentration, stamina, endurance, and work skills that improve test taking, critical thinking, and problem solving.

We do all of this uniquely developed for your child. It is our hope that through Kumon of Novi - West we will eliminate the need for math and reading tutoring. We are very proud of how well our students are doing and growing as learners during a world pandemic. The staff at Kumon of Novi - West will continue to cheer students on while shifting "I Can't" mindsets to "I Can!" Kumon of Novi - West develops math and reading athletes by developing efficiency and accuracy like swimming laps in a pool or mastering the violin or piano. Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

CENTER CALENDAR
Although Kumon is a year-round program, we do observe some national holidays, spring break, as well as a winter break at the end of December. Specific dates of center closings will be posted in the emails and also on our website. In case of weather related closures, a decision is usually made by noon of class day, and parents are informed via email.

CLASS ATTENDANCE
If you are not able to keep your scheduled time, please contact the center as soon as possible to reschedule. To the extent possible, we want to avoid students having to wait to attend class.

Class attendance is a vital part of the Kumon Program. Observing a student at work in class greatly assists in the planning process for that student. We also prefer to introduce new concepts in class so we may assist your child in reaching his/her Kumon goals. If a student is not able to attend class, please call the center  and arrange to pick up the classwork and homework at your convenience.

HOME GRADING
We encourage parents to grade their child’s Kumon worksheets completed at home and the students to correct all mistakes before bringing them back to the center. This ensures that the students receive immediate feedback on their work and make corrections early in the process, before mistakes become problematic and hinder progress. To aid the process of home grading, we provide parents answer booklets. If you encounter any problems while home grading, we encourage you to set up an appointment with the Instructor to discuss the matter.

COMMUNICATION
Parents will receive regular updates about their child’s progress from the Instructor. This could be in the form of phone calls, achievement reports, progress goals and parent conferences. If you would like to contact the Instructor, we encourage you to send an email, call or leave a message .The instruction hours are dedicated entirely to the students and we discourage parents from speaking with the Instructor during class hours.

VACATION
Planning and organizing work for your child takes a great deal of thought and organization. We require at least one week’s notice before any extended absence in order to put your child’s vacation packet together.

ABSENCE POLICY
Please note that students may be absent from Kumon study for no more than one continuous month. After more than one month of absence, when the student resumes, he/she will be considered as "discontinued" and the registration fee applicable at that time will be charged and placement test re-administered. All existing Kumon points will also be lost.

TERMINATION POLICY
If a student is going to drop out of class, either temporarily or indefinitely, a written notice is required at least 30 days before the effective date.
