About Your Instructor
Kirsten Smith
My name is Kirsten Smith, and I have the privilege of serving as the Instructor at the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Oviedo.
Before becoming an Instructor, I spent nearly 10 years working for Kumon on the corporate side as a Field Consultant. During that time, I worked with and learned from Kumon Instructors throughout Florida and the Washington, D.C. area. I saw firsthand how individualized math and reading instruction can help students at every starting point, from children working to strengthen foundational skills to advanced students progressing well beyond grade level. I have even seen students complete the Kumon Program while still in elementary and middle school.
Those experiences, along with watching my own son grow through his Kumon journey, inspired me to become an Instructor myself. After years of supporting Kumon centers and seeing what was possible for students, I wanted the opportunity to work directly with children and families and make that same kind of long-term impact in my own community.
At our Oviedo center, my goal goes far beyond helping students complete worksheets or improve a grade. I want students to develop strong academic foundations, confidence, independence, and the ability to tackle increasingly challenging material on their own. Kumon is not traditional tutoring or homework help. Instead, each student follows an individualized learning plan designed to meet them at their current level and help them build the skills they need to move forward.
That might mean helping a student strengthen addition facts before moving into more difficult math, developing the reading skills needed for stronger comprehension, or giving a child who is already excelling in school the opportunity to continue advancing beyond grade level. The goal is always meaningful progress while helping students become capable, independent learners.
I believe some of the most exciting moments in Kumon happen when students realize they can do something they once thought was too difficult. As skills become stronger and more automatic, challenging work becomes manageable, confidence grows, and students begin to rely less on someone showing them what to do and more on their own ability to figure it out.
Whether your child is struggling with foundational skills, doing well in school but ready for a greater challenge, or simply needs a stronger foundation in math or reading, I would love to learn about your goals and show you how Kumon can help.
I am thrilled to offer the Kumon Program to families in Oviedo and the surrounding community, and I look forward to meeting you and your child!
