About the Center

Introduction

The student to assistant ratio is approximately 5:1. Students of all ages can study worksheets independently in the same classroom. Their individualized lesson plans allow them to move at a pace that’s comfortable for them whether it’s review or advanced material.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program, click here.

PARENTS’ ROLE

  • Parents must agree to and be aware of all information on the Notice to Parents form.

  • We will send regular communication via email so please be sure we have the most up-to-date information.

  • Center hours are meant for students - please avoid interrupting class as much as possible.

  • Scheduled phone calls or in-person conferences are offered outside of center hours to discuss students’ progress in more detail.

  • Students must be dropped off at their scheduled times and picked up as soon as they are done.

DAILY STUDY & THE KUMON METHOD

  • Complete assignments in the order they are assigned.

  • Write name, date, the start time and end time properly on each assignment.

  • Correct errors on past assignments before starting something new.

  • Home-grading is highly recommended to ensure smooth progress through the materials. Answer books will be provided and must be returned to the center when the child moves on to the next level.

  • Tests must be taken in class and will not be sent home.

  • Long-term, continuous study will produce the best results. Taking breaks and switching from subject to subject is not recommended.

ATTENDANCE

  • There are no make-up classes.

  • If students are more than 10 minutes late to their scheduled session, they will not be able to stay in class AND have to pick-up only.

  • Parents should notify Miss Lei of any planned absences (parents will receive notice after two unexcused absences).

  • Work can be picked up by parents (or with written consent from parents) during regular class hours if students are not able to attend class.

  • Work can be prepared and issued for vacation (or extended absences) with at least 7 days' advanced notice.

CLASSROOM CONDUCT

  • Students are expected to treat fellow Kumon students, assistants and the Instructor with respect. Any mistreatment should be reported to Miss Lei immediately.

  • No food or beverages are allowed in class.

  • Please use the restroom before or after class (parents are expected to supervise use of the restrooms).

  • Be respectful of all property in and outside the classrooms. Any damage to Pearl City Plaza property will result in immediate termination of services.

Job Opportunities

Other job duties include answering student questions, data entry, preparing and organizing future assignments, as well as other clerical duties.
