About Your Instructor
Mark Folkmann
I was born and raised in Maryland, specifically in Baltimore County. Like many children of immigrant parents, education was a huge part of my life and it was held of highest importance. When I was in elementary school, my parents enrolled me into the Kumon program for both math and reading in which I tended to struggle more with math at school. I could see the benefits of Kumon early on in which I excelled beyond my expectations, even increasing my confidence with other subjects. The most important life lesson the Kumon program taught me is that I, myself, need to take charge of my education as tutoring is only a short-term solution to a lifelong journey. The Kumon philosophy introduced me to a brand new way of learning and studying through self-study and personal growth. It was after my time at Kumon I was given the proper study skills to excel in college, where I matriculated to The George Washington University in Washington, DC. It is a great honor to come back as a Kumon Director years later to help the Kumon students of today achieve their goals in and out of the classroom.
