About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to our Kumon Math and Reading Center. For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program.

Policies

1.     Day & Time Session – A Kumon student must attend at his/her designated day and time session twice a week, unless other arrangements have been made.

2.     Drop-off & Pick-up – Drop your student at his/her designated time session and pick up your student at approximately 30 minutes (one subject) or 60 minutes(two subjects) later.  Upon finishing their session, students wait in the lobby or outside the center.  Kumon is not responsible for students misbehaving, causing injury to themselves or others.  In order to maintain a good learning environment, we do not allow students waiting in the classroom.

3.     Home Grading – All parents are required to home grade their student’s homework.  This policy is strictly enforced.  Students are required to correct all homework errors at home. Immediate feedback is important to the success of the student in the program.

4.     Missing/Incomplete Homework – Students who fail to turn in their Kumon homework or not do their Kumon homework will be required to do the missing homework during class.  Expect a longer class session if this occurs.

5.     Early Release – A parent’s note is required for his/her student to be released from class before completing all assignments. A student’s request will not be accepted.

6.     Absences– Kumon is a daily activity, therefore if a student is unable to come to class, it is required that the parent make arrangements to pick up his/her homework assignment.

7.     Vacations– All vacation notifications should be provided through the Advance Notice of Absence form.  Fill out the form completely; follow the guidelines based on the length of the vacation.  Center will be closed on most national holidays and up to three weeks in summer. Homework assignments will be provided during center closures.  Make up classes or proration of tuition shall not be offered.

8.     Extended Absences – A student may take up to 1 month of absence during a calendar year.  Absences beyond this time frame will require re-registration and re-testing (fees apply).  Absences need to be notified in advance by the 20th day prior to the absence-month to avoid tuition charges.

9.     Withdrawal– Withdrawal from the program requires the Withdrawal Form filled out and submitted to the Instructor 45 days prior to the last day of the month ending the program (i.e., last day 5/31, notice must be received by 4/15). Tuition charges will continue if this form is not received and acknowledged by the instructor.

10.  Tuition Payments – All payments are recurring on a monthly basis on the 1stof the month until notice of withdrawal is received.  Payments are accepted in the form of: EFT, Master Card, Visa card or check.  For automatic payments, Tuition Authorization Payment form needs to be submitted upon enrollment.

11.  Notices/Announcements– Most communications (notices, announcements, and newsletters) are sent via e-mail.  We require a current e-mail address for this purpose.

12.  Calendar– The Kumon Center of Phoenix - Lookout Mountain follows the Maricopa Unified School District Calendar.

13.  Inquiries– All comments, questions, and inquiries should be directed to the Instructor before class or after class.  A message pad form is available to write your questions or you may call/email the center to make an appointment.
