About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Roseville. For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program, click here.

Policies

Detailed list of our policies will be discussed during the Parent Orientation. Here are few important ones but please see the complete list available in the center.

1. Kumon works best as a long-term program.
Our program is most effective as a long-term program since the focus is development of strong Math and Reading skills along with developing work skills. It is not a quick fix. Kumon is a worksheet-based program. We do not work on school textbooks. Daily practice helps with mastery of concepts. Kumon program starts with a review of basic concepts to help student build confidence and independent learning skills so student may find work easy for the first few months. Continuous and long-term learning is a key aspect to our program, so we recommend a minimum of one year enrollment. Sessions are usually 20 to 30 minutes twice a week. Center will work with you to design an individual plan and schedule. Daily practice is an important factor in the success of our program. Just like any sports, dance, musical instrument, math and reading works the same way, the more you practice the better your chances of mastery and success. Class sessions are once or twice a week and daily practice sheets are provided as homework. A big part of our program is to develop independent self- learning skills in our students.

2. Parent Role.
Parent involvement is key to the success of our program. Your active supervision and communication with us will be an important factor in designing an effective lesson plan. Providing a positive learning environment will be key in student motivation. A 10-minute daily commitment is expected to check the student work and homework grading. We recommend a progress meeting every three months so please communicate with the center regularly. Students pick up and drop off is at the center door. It is parent responsibility to be available on time for pick-up. Students will come out once the session ends and there is no student waiting area. We recommend parents to wait in the waiting area or outside the center during the session. The Kumon Center is not responsible for ensuring that any child stays on the premises. Parents of students under the age of 4 are required to remain on the premises during those children’s study sessions.

3. Vacation, Absence and Withdrawal Policy.
A student will be marked absent if they have not paid the monthly tuition or are not picking up homework/attending classes for the month. Student will be marked active if they have picked up any worksheets or attended any session in the month. Kumon allows only one month vacation in a calendar year so please talk to the center promptly about any upcoming vacations or travel plans. We require a two week notice for long vacations and work pick up option, so we have time to plan. Work pick-up option is available and highly recommended during the vacation or if you cannot attend sessions.
A written 45-day (or a one calendar month) notice is required for discontinuation/withdrawal from the program so please contact the center promptly so we can provide you with the withdrawal form and necessary paperwork. Notices are due latest by the 1st of the notice (last month of enrollment) month. All pending balance needs to be cleared before discontinuation can be processed. Failure to provide the written notice of absence or termination will result in charge of full month tuition. There are no make-up classes, but you can request to pick up work if student is going to be absent.

4. Liability and tuition policy.
The parent and/or guardian shall be liable for any damages and injuries caused by their children to other persons. the Kumon center, or the premises in which the center is located. The instructors are not liable for any Kumon student outside the center facility or after the student leaves the center. Kumon tuition is due in advance by the 1st of the month, and it will be considered late after the 5th of the month. A late charge will apply. It is parent/guardian responsibility to pay tuition on time and to confirm that their monthly payments are processing correctly. Please inform the center promptly if you have any changes in account information. Please reach out to us if there are any issues with the tuition payments.

5. Holiday List, Answer books, and other miscellaneous.
Our center holiday list is posted on our website, but we recommend that you check the updates, and any changes/announcements posted on the notice board and in the parent waiting area.
Answer books will be provided for homework grading. Answer books should be returned to the center at the end of each level.
We prefer emails as the preferred method of communication.

Please see the complete list of policies and announcements posted in the center and provided during the registration. Policies are revised from time to time, so we recommend that parents read all center communications and notices posted in the center and the waiting area regularly.
