About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to our Kumon Math and Reading Center. For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program.

Policies

WELCOME TO KUMON OF STUART!

We are very excited about the opportunity to work with your child. In order to make your experience with Kumon a positive and successful educational experience, we have created the following Center Policies and Procedures. Please review them carefully, as they are designed to provide you with essential information about the Summer program and our Center and to ensure smooth progress for all Kumon Students. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Class Attendance

We understand that life happens and that you may miss a class at one time or another. If you know your child is unable to attend class, please call us two (2) hours prior to be able to accommodate. The more advance notice we have, the better we will be able to make necessary adjustments to your child’s plan and prepare work for you to pick up. You are also welcome to stop in during class time to pick up the work for your child to complete at home.

Class attendance is a vital part of the KUMON program. We garner a great deal of information by observing your child at work, which informs the instructional decisions made for your child. If a student misses a regularly scheduled class and contacts us in advance, the work will be put in the outside hanging next to mail box for you to pick up. If you do not intend on picking up the work and would prefer we adjust the work to the next class day, please let us know.

Incomplete Homework

In order to get the most out of the KUMON program, homework should be completed daily. It is integral to the lesson planning process to be able to assess the completed homework, so please ensure that completed work is returned to the center when you come for class.

If there are extenuating circumstances that have kept your child from completing their work at home, please send in a note or call the Center in advance to let us know that the homework has not been done. We will reschedule the work for the day.

Holiday/Vacation Schedules

Planning and organizing work for your child takes a great deal of thought and organization. We require at least one (1) week notice before an extended absence in order to put together your child's vacation packet.

It is easy to let us know when you will begone and will need packets put together to cover your time away. You can leave a phone message, e-mail and/or send in a note letting us know the last day your child will be in class and the day they will return to class so that we can organize the right amount of work for them. You can also let us know if you would like any adjustments in the workload. Please let us know if you want to decrease or increase the amount of work to be done over your vacation, or if you would prefer easier work during your vacation. If we do not receive advance notice, we will try our best to compile a packet for you by the end of class that day. However, if we are not able to gather the work by the end of class, we will make different arrangements for pick up.

Extended Time Off

When a student who has taken a break returns to KUMON, they will not pick up from where they left off in the curriculum. Over time, the skills that students have built through daily study weaken. Thus, when a student returns to KUMON after an extended absence, the student will take another placement test and a $80 re-enrollment fee will be charged.

Center Calendar

Although KUMON is a year-round program of study, we do observe some national holidays as well as a weeklong break over the winter holiday break so that our Kumon families can recharge. Specific dates of Center closings will be posted in the parent waiting area, emailed, and shared on our social media accounts. If the Center is to be closed, students will receive work on the last class day before the holiday.

Withdrawal Policy

When you enroll in Kumon, you read and sign our 'Notice to Parents' form listing Kumon's policy stating that you are considered enrolled for the month (and are thus obligated to pay tuition) if you take any work dated in the month, if you attend a Center Day during the particular month or if you did not submit official written notice requesting cancellation. We request that you give us a written notice thirty(30) days in advance before dropping one of your two subjects of study or before leaving the Program. Your thirty(30) day written notice will serve to officially withdraw you from the KUMON Program, just as your initial application form officially marked your enrollment.

Student Pick Up

Parents can wait in the waiting area or leave and come back later to pick up their child.

· If you leave, it is important to comeback in time to pick up your child before your child is done with that day's work at the center. Students are only able to remain in the center during their scheduled time slot.
· If you leave, it is important to tell your child not to leave the center until you come back. Your child should wait inside.
· For Early Learners, we require parents to stay in the waiting area since their child may need their help in case they need to use the restroom.
