About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to our Kumon Math and Reading Center of Vancouver - North!

For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. Click here for more information about the Kumon Math Program.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. Click here for more information about the Kumon Reading Program.

MEET OUR STAFF

Steve S.

Steve is the center's afternoon front-desk receptionist. When COVID-19 restrictions presented important screening requirements of staff and students to help keep everyone safe, the center turned to Steve to ensure success in managing this vital role. Through temperature checks and hand sanitizer distributions, Steve makes sure the center is doing their part to maintain the dedication to safety we set forth in the age of a pandemic. You will also see his friendly demeanor on display while he is encouraging students, chatting with parents, and answering questions both in-person and over the phone. When Steve is not at the Kumon center, he is working as a golf-pro, teaching the sport he loves to old and young alike. Steve also enjoys gardening and cooking in his free time.

Lucas S.

Lucas worked through the Kumon math program while in elementary and middle school. He is the center's weekend receptionist, greeting and checking in students on Saturday mornings. She has been working at Kumon since she was a freshman in high school and now works with the young minds in Early Learning. Her favorite part of working with such little people is seeing the progress from the time they start to the point at which they are ready to be super stars in the main classroom. Currently, Emily is working on her undergrad degree at Washington State University, majoring in Psychology and Sociology. With her experience at Kumon and WSU, she plans on becoming developmental psychologist. In her free time, Emily loves exploring the city.
