I have my Bachelors in computer Applications, English & Sociology and my Masters in Business Administration. In my last year of MBA I started working on my business plan to open a primary school of my own in my parents hometown where I felt a lack for modern structured study program and enforcement of good study material. Being new to this field I had to work hard to get my school registered and recognized by the Government. With a lot of passion & hard work I started my teaching and entrepreneurship journey from starting preschool with 6 kids and gradually increasing it to 5th grade with over 130 kids in 3 yrs.
My life took a turn when I got married and my husband had to move to the USA to get a Ph.D.. I took a break to raise my kids and look after my parents and family but the entrepreneur in me was aspiring to continue my journey in the field of education which inspired me to open my own Kumon Center. I started my center in Ashland in Dec 2016 and started my journey as a Kumon Instructor. As a Kumon Instructor, I am dedicated to guiding students through their educational journey using the proven Kumon method, which focuses on developing strong self-learning abilities. With a personalized approach to teaching, I provide students with the tools and support they need to build a solid foundation in subjects like mathematics and reading. My goal is to help students not only improve their academic skills but also foster a love for learning and a sense of independence that will serve them throughout their lives. Whether working with beginners or advanced learners, I strive to create a positive and motivating environment where every student can reach their full potential. Being a Kumon instructor can be a fulfilling and rewarding career, as it involves shaping the academic journey of children and young adults. Here’s a glimpse into what my life looks like as a Kumon instructor:
1. Personalized Instruction As a Kumon instructor, I guide students through the Kumon method, a self-learning approach that emphasizes mastery through practice. My role involves helping students at different academic levels, providing them with personalized instruction based on their progress.
2. Building Relationships I build strong relationships with my students, their parents, and my fellow assistants. These relationships are key in ensuring my students feel supported and motivated. It’s also essential to communicate with parents regularly to share progress and address any concerns.
3. Consistency and Structure Kumon’s method revolves around consistency. As an instructor, I oversee students’ daily work, ensuring that they stay on track with their assignments and encourage them to take responsibility for their learning. This structured environment is critical in helping students achieve long-term success.
4. Problem-Solving and Encouragement I am there to guide your students through challenges they face in math and reading, offering encouragement and tips to help them overcome obstacles. The Kumon approach is focused on developing independent problem-solving skills, which is rewarding to witness.
5. Continuous Learning As an instructor, I am also constantly learning and adapting. I may have to adjust my teaching strategies or find new ways to engage students based on their needs. The Kumon method itself encourages instructors to be lifelong learners, as I stay updated with new materials and teaching techniques.
6. Student Progress and Success Watching my students grow academically and develop confidence is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a Kumon instructor. There’s a sense of accomplishment when you see students move from struggling with basic concepts to excelling in complex ones.
7. Entrepreneurial Opportunities Working as an independent franchisee as part of an established center, I am also responsible for the business aspect of running a Kumon center. This includes managing finances, marketing, and growing your student base.
8. Work-Life Balance The work environment can offer flexibility, as Kumon centers usually have set hours. However, there may be times when I need to put in extra hours for planning, preparing materials, and meeting with parents.
Ultimately, being a Kumon instructor involves patience, dedication, and a passion for helping students develop skills that will last a lifetime.
