Introduction

Read what parents have to say about Kumon of Beacon!

Welcome to the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Beacon. For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program, click here.

Policies

  • Students will be expected to come to class twice per week.

  • Students can expect to spend approximately 30-40 minutes per subject in class. This is to allow sufficient time to complete their daily classwork, as well as correct any mistakes on their classwork / homework.
  • Students are asked to arrive at the Center ready to complete their work at their scheduled time. We do our best to accommodate families who cannot make it to class on their scheduled time. However, students who arrive 15 minutes after their allotted time slot may not be able to complete their entire assignment at the Center, or may be required to pick up work to take home for that day.

Classroom & Parent Waiting Area

  • While classes are in session, parents are advised to remain in the Parent Waiting Area. It is important that we allow our students to complete their work independently.

  • While you are waiting for your child, please be courteous and keep voices low in the Parent Waiting Area.

  • Please pick up your child promptly. For our students' safety, no child is to wait alone under any circumstances.

First month's fees are to be paid by check or cash. During the enrollment process, we will obtain a voided check and direct deposit form to process subsequent monthly payments.

Continuous Learning

Kumon is a long-term enrichment program. We operate twelve months a year, including the summer months. Our goal is to bring your child to grade-level and then continue advancing him/her beyond grade level, and ultimately, program completion. It is not a quick-fix solution and we take your child's academic success very seriously. While we do not require a contractual length of stay with the program, we highly recommend a minimum of 6-12 months before a noticeable, distinct improvement in work study habits and academia can be observed.

Class Absences

Students are expected to attend classroom sessions twice per week at a mutually agreed upon time. However, we understand that there may be instances where you will have to switch days / time slots. We will only be able to honor such requests if prior notice of a week is given. We plan your child's work meticulously at the start of each week and interruptions and scheduling changes can be inconvenient. If adequate notice is provided to the Instructor, we will do our best to accommodate your request. However, please also understand that due to staffing ratios, we may be unable to accommodate your request. In such cases where you will be missing a class day, we ask that you pick up your child's class/homework from the drop box at the end of the day.

If you are going away on a short vacation and will be missing class days, please let us know in advance so that we can plan your child's work accordingly to ensure that he / she has the appropriate number of homework sets.

Long-term Absences / Withdrawal (Kumon North America's Policy)

A student who, for whatever reason, does not pay tuition or take any Kumon materials in a given month for a particular subject is considered "absent" for that month/subject(s). Students will be allowed a period of absence not to exceed one month per calendar year per subject.

An absence of two months per year will result in the student being un-enrolled in Kumon and will forfeit any accumulated Kumon points accrued. Should a "discontinued" student wish to re-enroll in Kumon, he / she will be re-enrolled as a new student (i.e., placement test, registration and materials fee will be assessed again).

If monthly tuition has changed since the time the student was first enrolled, the new tuition rate will be in effect. Likewise, if a revised enrollment policy has taken effect since the student was last enrolled, it will supersede the previous enrollment policy as well.

Withdrawal Policy

We require a ONE MONTH NOTICE PRIOR to the 1st day of the month of withdrawal from the Kumon program. Please notify the Instructor verbally and follow up with an email. The email notice will serve as a timestamp for your withdrawal notice. If sufficient notice is given, the last month's deposit paid at registration will be credited towards the student's last month of tuition. FAILURE TO PROVIDE SUFFICIENT NOTICE WILL RESULT IN THE FORFEITURE OF PREPAID DEPOSIT.

Center Closure for Holidays

We will notify all students and parents for scheduled center closures via email and/or posted classroom notices. Regardless of any center closure for any reason, we will always provide sufficient homework for all students to do for days in-between open classroom hours.

Communication

Communication is an important element of your child's learning journey. We aim to provide positive and constructive feedback to our students during class. We highly encourage parents to do the same at home and to celebrate your child's successes.

If you have comments or questions regarding your child's work, please do not hesitate to contact us via written notes, phone calls, or email outside of classroom hours. We do our best to reserve our class hours working and observing our students. Because of this commitment, please understand that the Instructor may not have the time to discuss student progress during class hours. As such, should you wish to speak to the Instructor, please email to set up a time to do so.

Safety and Liability

Kumon of Beacon does not take any responsibility for your child's safety after they have completed their classwork and leave the classroom. The parent / guardian is responsible for assuring the child's safe arrival and departure. We are not responsible for ensuring that your child stays on premises. Please ensure that your child is safe by waiting in the Parent Waiting Area and picking them up promptly after class.

The parent / guardian shall be held liable for any damages and injuries caused by their child to other persons and the parent agrees to hold harmless, defend, and indemnify the Instructor and staff of Kumon of Beacon. We are not liable for any Kumon student before or after the student leaves the classroom.
