About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Des Plaines!

Kumon Des Plaines has been a part of the Des Plaines community for the past 27 years.  Our commitment to quality of instruction has helped our center thrive over time.

We are looking forward to welcoming your child!

The Kumon Math and Reading Center of Des Plaines is happy to announce that we are now open for both in-center class sessions and virtual class sessions. The Center and staff are following all the necessary CDC and state protocols to make sure that your visit to the Center is safe. If you are not ready to attend in-center classes, we also offer virtual class sessions. Give us a call at (847) 803-4547 and we will be happy to answer any questions you have.

For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. Learn more information about the Kumon Math Program.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. Learn more information about the Kumon Reading Program.

Policies

Homework Grading:

To ensure your child's success with Kumon, parental involvement is strongly encouraged and recommended. This includes a consistent daily routine for completion of Kumon worksheets and their grading. Parents should ensure the completion of assignments on time, marking the mistakes and correction of mistakes before moving on to new work. Your child learns from their mistakes. Hence, correction of mistakes on daily basis will ensure lesser mistakes in future thus a smooth progress. Errors can be full or partial. Please use red pen while grading.

We provide Answer books to make home grading easier for parents.

Missed Class:

Work can be picked up and dropped off at the center for the missed class. Please call Instructor, Veronica Leitner, in case, you are not able to come during center hours, we are more than happy to leave the student's work in our center's waiting area.

Taking a break:

We do not advise students to take a break as it affects the skills learned by students through the daily practice. Number of daily assignment sheets can be adjusted depending on the student's need and progress. But if taking a break is unavoidable, student can take break for 1 month without affecting their registration. More than 1 month of break will require re-registration. Also, a student returning after an extended absence won't be able to start at the same curriculum level they left. Instructor will determine the level to start with.

Center Closings:

Center is closed on all National holidays. Also, center is closed for one week during Spring Break as well as during Thanksgiving
