About Your Instructor
Chijiang (David) Tsai
"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.", says William Arthur Ward. As it turns out, I happen to take joy in doing all of the above in my Kumon classroom. All these elements are the threads and needles that weave a complete learning tapestry together, based on both my own education experience and witnessing my son and daughter grow into outstanding college students with the aid of many years of Kumon study.
My passion for teaching stems from working in graduate school as a teaching assistant (Cornell University), giving lectures in regional college as an adjunct professor (La Salle University), mentoring dozens of young professionals rising through the ranks in a large Global Consulting Company (Accenture), as well as coaching youth soccer in recreation leagues in Middlesex County for many years. So, after over a decade in business and technology consulting around the globe, I rested my suitcase and joined my wife to become a certified Kumon instructor.
My teaching philosophy completely identifies with Kumon’s model to nourish self-discipline under structured learning cadence, to brew self-confidence supported by individualized lesson plan, and to mold students into self-learners by fostering cognitive growth radiating beyond just leveling with school curriculum. My motto as a Kumon instructor: “A good teacher is one who makes himself progressively unnecessary.” If that resonate with you as well, why not hop on our center's Instagram page to check out the vibe of "a day in the life as a Kumon student"?
