About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to Kumon Math and Reading Center of El Cerrito!

For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up, or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Each student advances through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking, and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program, click here.

Kumon Math and Reading Center of El Cerrito offers in-person instruction only. Students join us in-person twice per week, then complete work on their own at home on non-center days.

Price and Fees

Tuition is $200 per subject each month, with discounts for prepayment and longevity in the program.

  • Families of new students may earn a $20 per month discount by pre-paying their sixth month of tuition.
  • After six months of study, a student's tuition will be discounted by $25 per month.
On enrollment, families also pay two one-time fees:
  • $80 for registration
  • $30 for materials

Policies

Start the enrollment process by making a placement test appointment and filling out a separate online pre-enrollment form for each child.

After enrolling and testing, families choose two days to attend, and whether they prefer the early (3-5 pm) or the late (5-6:30 pm) window of attendance. Beginning in the chosen window, each student will study about half an hour per enrolled subject.

Students will receive daily assignments to complete. Those assignments should take about 25 minutes per subject per day. Students working shorter or longer periods may need their assignments adjusted.
