How long have you been a Kumon Instructor?
I’ve owned my Kumon center for 8 years in Journal Square after attending extensive training at Kumon University.
What did you do before Kumon?
I was a project manager for a banking company. I’ve always loved working with numbers and calculations. I enjoyed my experience in this role, but I knew something was missing in my career and I wanted to give back to the community more.
What made you become a Kumon Instructor?
My wife and I enrolled our daughter in Kumon at a young age. I witnessed firsthand the accomplishments Kumon helped my daughter to achieve. Not only did she advance in school, but a new confidence and perseverance developed within her. I realized how impactful and beneficial this program really was. I wanted to open my own Kumon center in a community where my family once lived.
What is your favorite thing about being a Kumon instructor?
My favorite thing is witnessing the growth of a child and how far they can advance or improve with their learning. I’ll never forget one of my first “aha moments” as an Instructor. In my first four months, of being an Instructor, I witnessed a young elementary student complete middle school math calculations with ease. She completed the test in record time with a perfect score. I was so proud of her that my staff and I gave her a standing ovation. The potential a child has in endless!
Do you have any hobbies?
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family or reading books about philosophy.
What is an interesting fact about yourself that not everyone knows.
I consider myself to be an environmentalist. I love the outdoors and what nature has to offer us I like to participate in activities that help give back and take care of our world.
