About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to our Kumon Math and Reading of League City-North.

For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program, click here.

Policies

Center Attendance

Kumon Math and Reading Center of League City - North is open throughout the year.  Center holidays will be announced well in advance.  The center will be closed if the Clear Creek Independent School District closes (e.g. inclement weather).

Students are expected to attend the center twice a week for a 30 minute session per subject.
Students studying one subject must arrive at the center no later than 30 minutes before closing time; students studying two subjects must arrive at the center no later than 60 minutes before closing time.  Students are expected to leave at the center’s closing time even if their work is unfinished. Unfinished classwork will be completed as additional homework.

Missed Classes

If you know in advance that your child will be out for an extended period of time (e.g. vacation), please give the Instructor at least a two-week notice, so the work can be prepared in advance.  If the absence is unexpected or no notice is given, the student or parent should arrange to pick up the work.

Communication and Reports

Instructors frequently provide parents and students with progress reports and graphs.  They also communicate with parents in person, by telephone or e-mail, or via the homework calendars. Parents are required to set up a conference after the first month of enrollment.  Parents are encouraged to communicate with the Instructors anytime when needed by making a 15–30 minute appointment outside of center hours.

Student Conference

Student Conferences are held regularly during class. The conferences are strictly between the student and the Instructor.  The purpose of these conferences is to keep the students motivated, to set goals, and to make them aware of their progress in the Kumon program.

Home-grading

All Kumon Math and Reading Center of League City - North parents are expected to home-grade.  Home-grading can significantly increase your child’s performance because mistakes and misconceptions can be discovered and corrected right away.  Also, your child will focus more on his/her work if it is corrected immediately.  In addition, you will have a clear idea of how your child is performing and progressing.

Maximize Learning

Parents of Kumon Math and Reading Center of League City - North students play a critical role in helping create good study and work habits with their children.  Here some ways parents can assist their children:

  • Encourage your children to write down their starting and ending times on all assignments.
  • Work on Kumon homework first, before school homework.
  • Use words of encouragement or of praise, not negative scolding or criticism.
  • Provide a quiet environment in the home that is conducive to concentrating on learning.
  • Review your child’s progress with him/her on a regular basis; encourage your child to become involved in reviewing his/her own progress.

Award Presentation

To recognize student achievement, Award Presentations are held at our center on the 3rd Saturday of each month, at 2:00 pm. Students who will receive an award will be notified by letter as well as by email.
