Welcome to our Kumon Math and Reading Center of Leawood. For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program, click here.

Class Attendance

► Single-subject students should allow for 30 minutes in the center.

► Double-subject students should allow for 50-60 minutes.

► The Kumon classroom has to be a quiet study area so that everyone can concentrate. Siblings, friends, and parents are asked to stay in the waiting area. No music, food or drinks are permitted in the Kumon center.

► If you have to miss a class, please let the Instructor know ahead of time so she can leave the work for you to pick up outside the office.

► It is highly recommended that families at our center keep their children enrolled for twelve months in order to fully take advantage of the program and see some great results.

► Kumon is a year-round program. Students absent more than one month during a calendar year must be re-registered and pay the registration fee to resume Kumon study.

Home Grading/The Role of a Kumon Parent

► Home grading is a mandatory part of the Kumon study. It is the parent's responsibility to accurately grade and record all of their child's Kumon homework. Since Kumon is a home-based supplemental education program, our center firmly believes in the benefits of home-grading and thus recommends that parents participate daily in grading their child’s work.

► The purpose of grading worksheets at home is to allow students to receive prompt feedback so they can make corrections on a daily basis. Home-grading allows you to monitor your child’s work more closely, giving you insight into his/her daily academic enrichment process.

► Set up the routine. Establish a predictable Kumon time & place, and create a quiet study environment. This will help support your child in developing good study habits, discipline, independence, and work completion. Please refer to the Home-grading Brochure, available at the center, on how to accurately mark your child’s work. If you need clarification on how to home grade, please ask, we will be happy to answer your questions.

Kumon Homework Bags

► The Kumon bag travels between home and center. At your child’s class sessions, s/he will receive work until the next class day. During every class session, s/he should come to the center with the Kumon bag in hand. The completed homework will be collected for evaluation. Work is dated for specific days and should be done on the day it's assigned.

► Pencils and erasers should also be kept in the pouch as a way for your child to learn about responsibility and the value of being prepared.

► One homework bag per subject is provided at registration. New bags to replace lost or damaged ones must be purchased from the center for $5.

Parking/Child Pick-Up

► If in the parent's or guardian's determination, a child is not old enough to go to and from the center on his/her own, the parent/guardian is responsible for assuring the child's arrival and departure. The Kumon Center is not responsible for ensuring that any child stays on the premises.

Communication with the Instructor

► During class hours, it is important for the Instructor to focus solely on the students and the running of the class. For this reason, the Instructor will not be available to meet with parents during class. If parents would like to schedule a conference or relay a message to the Instructor, please contact her by phone or email.
