About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to Kumon of McKinney - Southwest, conveniently located in Craig Ranch North Plaza between Custer and Alma on Stacy Rd in McKinney, TX. We are so excited to work with you and your child to reach their academic goals while building their life skills!

For over 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program, click here.

Price and Fees

Price per subject: $150 per month

Policies

  • Each child receives his/her packet of worksheets every week on Monday, Thursday or Saturday as directed by their schedule. There are no make-up classes, but if a child cannot make it to class, parents can call and have their child’s work set out for them to pick up at their convenience.

  • Each child needs “daily, quiet, study time” (10-15 minutes per packet per day) and a good learning environment to master the level concepts. In order to achieve mastery, parents should understand that their child may have repetitions of the same material.

  • Parents should hold their child accountable for his/her Kumon study at home by ensuring he/she is doing work daily, making corrections independently, and attending class weekly.

  • We encourage parents to grade their child’s homework daily and give it back to him/her to make necessary corrections. Parents should not write the correct answers on the worksheets or try to “teach” their child Kumon, but instead let the child learn independently.

  • Parents should keep all grade books, solution manuals, and calculators out of their child’s reach while he/she is doing the Kumon worksheets. This is a proactive approach that helps to eliminate temptation from a child.

  • “Vacation Request” forms are available in the office. Once completed, the form needs to be returned to the office.

  • Parents should do their best to attend the Parent conferences. This is an excellent opportunity for them to discuss their child’s progress and goals, as well as a chance to discuss their Kumon regimen at home.

  • Parents should check their child’s Kumon bag weekly for correspondence and read the monthly newsletter sent out by the Kumon Math and Reading Center of McKinney - Lake Forest Crossing.

  • Parents must understand that their child’s instructor is not available for conferences with them during class hours. If parents need to discuss anything they can call or email the center on non-class days.

  • Parents must be supportive of their Kumon student and help encourage them to be an independent learner by praising them and celebrating their successes with them. Parents should also be a source of encouragement when their child is frustrated or has been introduced to a new concept.

  • Tuition is due on the 1st of every month through EFT. One month in-person notice is required for deactivation.
