Introduction

Welcome to the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Orland Park – West!
The Kumon Center of Orland Park – West has been proudly serving the community since 2015.

About Kumon
For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program, click here.

Give your child the opportunity to learn skills that will last a lifetime!

The Center’s Philosophy
Instructor Susan Lenti feels that her Kumon Center can be likened to a theater production, with students taking the leading role. The instructor is the director, motivating students in their learning, while parents work "backstage" to support and direct their child. The center's support staff are the “audience”, witnessing students excel in ways parents may not have thought possible.

Come in to our Kumon Center soon to see our philosophy in action!

Policies

BASIC CENTER POLICIES

Class Timing:

1. Students may attend class twice a week for 20-30 minutes per subject.

2. Students must pick a schedule and stick to it as best as possible. We can adjust the schedule with notice.

Class Expectations:

1. Students are expected to attend class at least once a week, but are encouraged to attend twice a week. Excessive absences and missing assignments will cause students to fall behind and lose motivation.

2. Kumon of Orland Park - West uses a classroom approach for instruction. Student independence and self-learning are core principles of the Kumon Method which involves individualized study, not one-on-one tutoring.

3. The Instructor and Assistants circulate through the classroom to provide assistance and guidance to students. However, our goal is to help without helping – hints and examples, not answers. Students are also asked to try and figure out the problem on their own using provided examples. This stimulates self-learning.

4. Students are expected to change out their own homework, and return completed and graded assignments.

Absence and Termination Policies:

1. Absences:

A student may be absent, at no charge, for one calendar month out of each calendar year.  If a student is absent for more than one calendar month in a calendar year, that student will be considered discontinued and will have to re-enroll.  Please ask for an absence request form if your child will be taking a break.  The form must be filled out and submitted by the 15th of the preceding month.

If you are planning an absence and you would like to take extra work or less work, please inform us at least one week before you plan on taking this customized workload.

2. Termination:

Please ask for a termination form if your child will be terminating the Kumon program.  The form must be filled out and submitted by the 15th of the preceding month.
