About Your Instructor
Fang Zhang
"The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is practice," said piano maestro Vladimir Horowitz. For more than a decade as Chief Instructor at Kumon Plainsboro, I have had the privilege of guiding nearly a thousand students (from preschoolers to high schoolers) through the structured pathways of the Kumon Math and Reading Program. Each learner begins carving out his/her learning journey at a "just right" starting point and navigates their own peaks and valleys. My role is to help them build the resilience and skills needed to master essential concepts, supported by fully individualized lesson plans that allow every student to progress at their own pace.
My teaching philosophy reflects the wisdom of Scottish educator Thomas Carruthers: "A good teacher is one who makes himself progressively unnecessary." This is the essence of Kumon’s approach. We don’t simply impart knowledge — we help students learn how to learn. This self-learning aptitude enables students to unlock their full potential and gain the confidence to negotiate with increasingly complex landscapes of learning, far beyond their K–12 years.
