About Your Instructor
ARATHI KUMAR
Hello! I’m Arathi Kumar. I was born and raised in Bangalore, India, in a family that has always valued education and community service. My sister runs a Montessori school, and my family in India operates a charitable school that provides free education and meals to more than 1,000 students every day—something we are all very proud of.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Child Psychology and Education from Bangalore University and later continued graduate studies at San Jose State University. Over the years, I’ve worked in my father’s industry, completed a diploma in Hotel Management and Catering Technology, and spent time working with emotionally disturbed and abused children in California. Each of these experiences shaped who I am as an educator.
My Kumon journey began as a parent. Watching my own child make steady progress through the program helped me realize how powerful the method is—and that guiding children is truly my passion. When I opened our center in 1999, I made a commitment to understand each student as an individual and help them move forward at a pace that’s right for them.
Being a Kumon instructor is incredibly rewarding. I love having the chance to step into a child’s thinking process, support them as they learn, and celebrate their growth. I learn something new from every student, and their determination continues to inspire me every day.
I’m also very proud of my staff. They are an extension of me. They are trained to carefully observe, guide, and encourage students so we can all work together to provide each child with strong support.
My goal has always been to help students understand their own goals and feel confident in what they can achieve. Often, they end up accomplishing more than they ever imagined, and watching that transformation is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
I feel grateful every day for the opportunity to work with children and to help build a community of independent, motivated learners.
I look forward to meeting you soon!
