We have lived in Naperville since 1998. While in school, our kids were also Kumon students. Witnessing the positive impact that the Kumon experience had on my own family, it seemed to be the logical next step to open the Shorewood Kumon Center and offer this game-changing program to families in our extended neighborhood. Here is my mantra for academics:
There is no elevator to success. I must take the stairs.
Mastering the basics is fundamental to developing the desire and ability to handle a new concept independently. Fractions cannot be understood before arithmetic. Spelling and grammar can not be learned ahead of phonics. Proficiency in algebra and geometry, critical reading, and literary writing does not develop before reading comprehension. Calculators and Sparc notes are no substitute for a genuine grasp of the material.
Gaps in foundational math and reading skills must be filled first so that the student can move ahead on solid ground.
Your neighborhood Shorewood-Joliet Center opened in July 2004, long after I had realized, firsthand, the immense benefits of the Kumon Method for my children, witnessed in their academic skills and test scores, self-confidence and independent learning mindset.
Since then, the Shorewood Center has enabled many Kumon Kids to walk out its doors as capable and confident learners.
