About Your Instructor
SIU WAI (NORRIS) YAU
My name is Norris Yau, and I graduated from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Before becoming a Kumon Instructor, I worked as an electrical consultant for eight years, where I developed strong problem-solving, analytical, and system-design skills.
This engineering background allows me to approach learning from a structured and logical perspective. I enjoy breaking down complex challenges into simple, step-by-step processes that students can easily follow. To me, every learning obstacle has a system behind it — once we understand the system, we can build a clear path to success.
I’ve always loved working with children and feel a deep sense of fulfillment watching them grow. Seeing a child progress, gain confidence, and develop independence is one of life’s greatest rewards. I believe that as educators, we don’t just teach — we grow together with our students, learning patience, empathy, and perseverance along the way.
My journey with Kumon began when I witnessed how the method transformed my five-year-old niece. Her growth wasn’t only in academic skills but also in her sense of responsibility and self-discipline. That experience convinced me that Kumon’s greatest strength lies in cultivating independent learners. I believe responsibility is the foundation of self-motivation — a quality that empowers children not only to excel in school but to thrive in every area of life.
