Whittier Kumon Center Policies
General Policies
Students will have assignments planned every day during his/her stay as a Kumon student. Kumon homework is carefully planned to reinforce the development of concentration, endurance, and independant skills in addition to the development of math and reading proficiency. Please make sure the student (your child) finishes his/her Kumon work daily in sequence as the date assigned. Any incomplete assignments need to be returned to the center in the next class for lesson plan adjustment.
If a student cannot attend class due to an emergency or unexpected change of schedule, the student’s homework will be in the mailbox.
Students must record the starting and finishing time on his/her daily assignment in order to receive proper evaluation of his/her work.
Students must be neat and clear on his/her Kumon work. Any work not completed clearly and neatly will be repeated. Part of the student’s Kumon experience is to develop discipline and structure; neat work is essential to achieve that.
Parents are expected to spend about 5 minutes each day to grade a student's daily assignment to ensure smooth progress. Students are expected to finish all homework corrections at home before attending the next class.
Students must bring pencils, completed homework, and unused/incomplete assignments to class every center day.
Each student will receive a “homework pouch” to store his/her Kumon work at home and bring the work to class. It is important to keep all worksheets for the current week in the pouch. Lost or damaged pouches can be replaced at $5 each.
Each Kumon student has an assigned time slot during which he/she should come to the center. Please arrive at the center in the proper time slot. In case of an unexpected change of schedule, please scan the QR code and reschedule your reserved time.
Math and Reading students must arrive at their scheduled time. Each class session will take up to 30 minutes for 1 subject and up to 60 minutes per subject depending on the study level.
Due to our limited parking, we respectfully ask parents to drop off the student and return to the center in 25/40 minutes to pick up your child or you can park at the Quad and walk over. We cannot watch your child after his/her Kumon class assignments are done because of liability reasons. PLEASE plan to pick up your child promptly.
To ensure safety, every student is expected to be escorted to the outside to parents or guardians.
Class work corrections must be done before students can be dismissed from class. If a student has to leave early, parents should send a note with the student or come in to let us know.
If a student will leave for vacation, parents should complete a “Vacation Notice Form” and submit it at least a week in advance for special arrangement regarding Kumon assignment. We will accommodate and prepare extra work for students with advance notice.
If parents have any questions or concerns regarding a student's assignment or progress, please feel free to contact Mrs. Lupita. She is happy to speak with parents during non-center hours. Please call and leave a voice mail or send an email to [email protected].
No food and beverages are allowed in the center, except for water. Gum chewing and sneakers with wheels are also prohibited in the center as they will cause distractions.
This center will be closed several times a year (usually one week in spring, one week in summer, Thanksgiving Day, and one week during Christmas and New Year week). The center is also closed on most major US public holidays (when the month has 5 Mondays or Thursdays). Advance notice will be given for class closings and holidays. Tuition will not be prorated because usual Kumon assignments will still be prepared and given to students in advance before closing to maintain student’s daily Kumon study habits.
Tuition Policies
Tuition is pro-rated only for the first month of enrollment depending on the day of the month enrolled. Full tuition is charged for subsequent months until 30 days written notice is given to terminate enrollment.
Tuition and fees should be pre-paid monthly by autopay with credit or debit card on the 1st of each month. A late fee of $10 per subject will apply if tuition is received after the 5th of the month.
A 30-day written notice is required if you intend to discontinue your child’s participation in Kumon. Otherwise, parents are still obligated to pay the next month's tuition in full. If your child discontinued without advance written notice, or if any work is taken at any time during the month, the paid tuition and the one month tuition for that month is non-refundable and is forfeited.
A deposit equivalent to one month’s tuition for one subject is also due at the time of enrollment. Your deposit will remain on your account and, with 30-day advance notice, your one month 1-subject tuition deposit will be credited to your last month’s 1 subject tuition if your child discontinues the program. The deposit is non-refundable and is forfeited if it is not used within 30 days of the student's last attendance.
Registration fee, materials fee, and tuition are non-refundable.
In case of medical or other emergencies where a 30-day advance notice cannot be given, please call or email the center and we will do what we can to accommodate your situation.
If there is a need for your child to be absent for the next month, you must inform us before the 25th of the current month. Otherwise, parents are still obligated to pay the next month's tuition in full. Or the one subject tuition deposit will be applied.
The materials fee collected is used to replace books and other supplemental materials that are damaged due to normal wear and tear. If your child loses or damages Kumon materials such as books or flashcards, parents are required to replace the item or pay for its replacement.
