Long Ngo

Hailing from humble beginnings, Dr. Long Ngo was born in Viet-Nam during the Viet-Nam War and faced significant hardship prior to immigrating to the United States. Educating herself and learning a new language, she persevered and attended San Jose State University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in social work in 1993. From there, she became a Mental Health Case Manager in Santa Clara County, California, noting that her empathy for her patients was rooted from her own experiences. After experiencing a life-changing medical event in her life, she sought to pursue medicine in an effort to change the lives of others in the same way her life was saved.

In 2001, Dr. Ngo received a Doctor of Medicine from St. Matthew's University and, three years later, earned a Master of Science in Health Administration from St. Joseph’s College. Dedicated to her commitment to alter the course of other individuals’ lives, she took a hiatus before working with youth who required mathematics and reading skills. From there, her career blossomed into the current occupation she holds today.

Dr. Ngo joined Kumon Math and Reading Center in 2017, a local organization in Woodland, California, that serves as an after-school academic enrichment program, instilling in children the motivation to achieve success on their own terms. Boasting comprehensive curriculum programs in mathematics and reading, Kumon provides children with the necessary skills to help them progress from elementary to advanced stages.

As an instructor, Dr. Ngo serves as a mentor to children enrolled in the program, while also providing guidance and encouragement for them to succeed. She also creates at-home study plans, emphasizing the importance of completing assignments within a designated time frame.

Attributing her success to her ability to overcome hardship and passion for helping others and showing a good example to her children, Dr. Ngo was honored with the Employee of the Year Case Manager Award, the President’s Award in Medical School. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, riding bike with her children, hiking, gardening, playing the music instruments, and attending church services.

“Kumon has helped me to better handle making mistakes. Before I started Kumon, I had a breakdown every time I made a mistake but because Kumon is so challenging, I have learned that it's okay to make mistakes because you can learn from them.”

“Kumon has taught me to persevere. There are times when the assignments are hard, but I am determined to work through the challenging assignments. Getting independent practice on my assignments is a great way to prepare me for times in life when I may have to work alone.”
