About Your Instructor
Julissa Bhakta
Julissa Bhakta brings over a decade of experience in education to Kumon-Riverlakes. Her journey began as an instructional aide while earning her bachelor’s degree from California State University, Bakersfield. She went on to become a substitute teacher, gaining valuable experience across a wide range of grade levels and school settings.
Julissa was later recommended for an emergency credential position at Semitropic Elementary School, where she taught and developed curriculum for 4th grade. She then became a fully credentialed teacher with the Bakersfield City School District, further deepening her expertise in student learning and academic growth.
With a strong background in education, Julissa was inspired to bring the Kumon Method to the Riverlakes community. After completing Kumon’s Instructor Training Program in New York, she opened Kumon-Riverlakes. She is passionate about helping students build confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.
Outside the center, Julissa is active on several local education-focused boards and enjoys giving back to the community. In her free time, she loves spending time with her husband Kamal and their daughter Aria. Together, they enjoy traveling, playing golf, and trying new foods.
