About Your Instructor
James Patrick
Hello, my name is James Patrick, and I am proud to be a second-generation Kumon Instructor with over 30 years of experience with the Kumon Method. My journey with Kumon began when I was 11 years old, inspired by the remarkable progress my younger brother made as a Grade 3 student in the program. While I was not struggling academically, I lacked the confidence and motivation to reach my full potential. Kumon changed that. Through consistent practice and encouragement, I transformed into a high-achieving student. The skills and discipline I developed through Kumon opened countless doors for me throughout my academic and professional life—opportunities that may never have come my way otherwise.
During high school, I watched my mother open her first Kumon Centre in Mississauga in 1996. I joined her team as a staff member and eventually became General Manager of one of her centres. This experience deepened my understanding of the Kumon Method and ignited my passion for helping children succeed. In 2007, I took a significant step forward by opening my own Kumon Centre in Ottawa, followed by the launch of Kumon Burlington – Appleby Mall in 2010.
After graduating from university, I felt a strong desire to give back. I wanted to share with others the same transformative experience I had as a student. Today, I am proud to support families in the Burlington community — not only through Kumon, but also by coaching youth sports, sponsoring local teams, and teaching in the Children’s Ministries at my church. I take great joy in helping children uncover their potential and watching their confidence grow. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a child’s face light up when they realize what they can achieve.
