About the Centre

Introduction

Welcome to the Kumon Math and Reading Centre of Metrotown! We are located in Suite 230 at 5000 Kingsway, the same three-story building as Royal Bank of Canada, TD Canada Trust, and Single V Coffee, and the same complex as London Drugs.

The Metrotown Kumon Centre is run by Mr. Timothy Bertram M.Sc., Ms. Alice Chak, and our great team of learning assistants.

In 2025, we celebrate Kumon Metrotown's 27th anniversary of bringing the Kumon Math and Reading programs to the students of our community! We have had so many wonderful success stories with our students over the years, including those who have reached very high levels of advancement in their studies and are now in their professional careers.

Policies

We strongly encourage a very minimum TWELVE MONTHS of uninterrupted study commitment per subject but encourage your child to aim for program completion!

Tuition is collected on a monthly basis for the full month. However, most students study at Kumon for two to five years. The Kumon program is designed for long-term study, rather than a “quick-fix” solution. Just like martial arts training or practicing an instrument, building a solid educational foundation takes time, and year-round study supports continuous progress. By continuing Kumon studies throughout the year, your child will maintain and build on their successes by developing powerful study skills and gaining self-confidence in their abilities. As well, hard-earned study routines will not be broken and can be reinforced even when schools are on break.

We require a minimum of one full calendar month’s written notice from parents who wish to take the maximum one-month break or withdraw from the program (in either or both subjects) or transfer to another Kumon Centre.

For example, if you will be absent for the month of July, you need to notify us by May 31st. Kumon North America permits students to be absent for one month per calendar year after the first full year of study.

We ask that parents have their children show them the completed Kumon assignments each day.

Job Opportunities

Reading program assistant

  • December 20th, 2024

We are planning to hire a Learning Assistant to focus mostly on students in our Reading Program.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children, is strong academically (Honour Roll if in Grades 11 or 12), and detail-oriented. If you have experience as a Kumon student, that is even better. Many applicants are in university, and we do not hire Grades 10 and under.

Please send us an email with a cover letter noting:
What you admire about the Kumon Method
Any Kumon experience, direct or indirect
Your availability during the week for shifts

    Attach your resume.
