About Your Instructor
Wai Fung (Winnie) Ngai
Hello, and welcome!
My name is Winnie Ngai, and I am proud to be the Owner and Instructor of our Kumon Centre in Legacy of Calgary.
At our Kumon Centre, my goal is to help students build more than academic skills. I want every child to develop confidence, independence, discipline, and a lifelong love of learning. By working closely with families and understanding each student’s individual needs, we create personalized learning plans that help children progress at their own pace and reach their fullest potential.
I hold a university degree in Finance and began my professional career in the banking industry, where I spent more than 10 years as a Relationship Manager with major financial institutions. Following that, I enjoyed over 20 years as an entrepreneur, building businesses and working closely with people from all walks of life. Throughout these experiences, I learned that the most meaningful investment we can make is in people—especially children.
As both an educator and a parent, I have always been passionate about helping young people develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed. My own son attended Kumon, and I witnessed firsthand the positive impact the program had on his academic growth, discipline, and independence.
Even before becoming a Kumon Instructor, I believed that true learning happens when children learn how to think for themselves. Rather than simply providing answers, I often guided my son through thoughtful questions that encouraged him to discover solutions independently. This approach aligns closely with the Kumon philosophy of developing self-learning ability through consistent practice and guided discovery.
Over time, I saw remarkable results. Today, while still in Grade 11, my son has progressed to advanced mathematics beyond his grade level and continues to learn independently. His journey reinforced my belief that when children develop strong study habits, perseverance, and confidence, their potential becomes truly limitless.
In addition to my professional experience, I have also spent many years serving as a volunteer Sunday School teacher, mentoring and encouraging children in their personal growth and development. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for the unique strengths and abilities of every child.
I am honored to partner with families on this educational journey and look forward to helping your child discover the joy of learning and the confidence that comes from achieving their goals independently.
