Policies and Procedures
Centre Hours:
In-Class hours are Monday and Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Tuesday and Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM (excluding statutory holidays, Winter Break). Virtual Classes are offered on Wednesdays 4:00 PM- 7:00 PM.
Assignments will be prepared and given to all students to cover any centre closures.
Classes and Schedule: Students will be scheduled for 30-minute sessions for each subject.
Continuity:
Kumon is a year-round program of daily study. For best results, students should expect to remain in the program during the summer months and should include summer study in their plans. For those students on holiday, the program is portable and homework packages may easily be taken on vacation, with prearranging.
Tuition:
Tuition is due on the 20th day of every month, for the following month. The first month tuition will be paid by cheque or cash and the subsequent months by pre-authorized debit. If the student will be absent for one month, please let us know of the absence by the 5th day of the previous month to avoid the withdrawal.
- There is a one-time registration fee of $50 per student.
- Monthly fee per student/per subject is $140.
- Tuition is charged for the Kumon Method and use of the worksheets.
- Tuition is not pro-rated for absences.
Attendance and Absences:
Let us know (by email or phone call) your last class day, the day you will return to class and how much work you want to do each day and we will prepare it for you (48 hour notice is sufficient).
Permanent Withdrawal:
A student is considered "discontinued" in the program after two consecutive months of absence. The registration fee of $50 is required for re-enrollment in the program and the student will be re-tested. We require 30-day notice to stop payment and discontinue a student from the program.
Home marking and Answer Books:
Kumon students have homework for an average of 15-25 minutes daily. Please check that your child has completed their work daily. Home marking is encouraged so that corrections can be made immediately and so that students stay on track. Answer books to help with home marking are provided.
Parents are encouraged NOT to help their child complete Kumon assignments. If your child cannot complete their work independently, please let Mrs. Votruba know by writing a note or by phone/email. Remember that Kumon’s main focus is independent learning.
Communication with parents:
Periodically it is important to discuss your child's progress in Kumon with the instructor. Student progress graphs will be sent home with the results of Achievement Tests. If you wish to discuss their progress or any concerns you may have please contact us by phone or email to set up an appointment. Parent meetings are done by appointment outside of regular class hours.
Classroom environment:
Please do not bring food or drink into the classroom area.
Please note that personal electronic devices (iPod’s, Cell phones, etc.) must be turned off in the classroom.
Parents are responsible for picking up their child on time as we cannot monitor a child’s whereabouts once they have left the classroom, if the parents have dropped them off.
