About Your Instructor
Geoffrey Brown
Hi there! My name is Geoff Brown, and I am the Kumon Instructor here in North Bay.
In 2004 I began my career with Kumon as the Assistant Instructor here at the North Bay Centre. In 2008, after completing Instructor training at Kumon University, I took over the Centre from our previous Instructor of 19 years.
In addition to Kumon’s extensive and continual training I hold an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (BBA) and a Masters of Education (MEd), both from Nipissing University. I was able to graduate with distinction from both degrees and gained recognition throughout for a variety of accomplishments. Most notably, in the fourth year of my undergraduate degree I was awarded Nipissing's Business Leader Award for my professionalism, participation, and academic integrity and excellence, and following that my achievements were highlighted in Nipissing’s President’s Report.
The focus of my graduate studies was on understanding and nurturing students’self-efficacy beliefs. Self-efficacy is students’ level of confidence in their ability to achieve a desired outcome in a given task or to attain a specific goal. Self-efficacy is important because it can impact students’ motivation, interest, performance, and anxiety coping skills. Through my studies I have been able to understand much about how to encourage greater student self-efficacy with the Kumon program. I have a deep love for education and the empowerment it can create for students, and with my education and experience I am always looking for new methods to cultivate this passion in all of my students.
During my time with Kumon I have seen countless students achieve incredible results. I have seen timid students become outspoken individuals, students brought down by academic labels grow to amaze their teachers and classmates, and students who would dread school work ask outright for tests and look forward to new, more challenging topics. At Kumon we understand that education is not just about grasping subject matter, but it is also about developing confident, determined, and motivated individuals. My staff and I strive to develop these qualities within all our students as they are key to academic success.
Kumon is a real team effort and in order for the program to work the student, parents and Instructor all have to work together. Please feel free toask questions about any aspect of your child’s progress. During busy class days, I may ask if I can call you after class so that I can focus on the children and so that we can speak without interruption, but I do want to hear from you!
I am very proud to be able to offer this service in my community, and I look forward to working with your child.
Sincerely,
Geoff Brown, Instructor
