About the Centre

Introduction

Welcome to our Kumon Math and Reading Centre. For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program.

Policies

Class Rules and Code of Behavior

- We provide a Kumon pouch, a pencil and eraser on the first day of class. After which, it is the student's responsibility to come prepared every class with their work in their Kumon pouch, at least 2 sharpened pencils and an eraser to avoid losing valuable class time.

- While at the Centre, students are required to behave in a respectful manner, including using good manners, a quiet voice and not being unruly. Students who are unable to follow the rules may be asked to leave class in order to maintain a quiet and relaxed learning environment.

- Parents and siblings are asked to stay in the waiting area while class is in session. During class, if you need to give your child anything or have a request, kindly ask the person at the front desk to minimize disruption. During class hours, the instructor and Centre assistants will be busy working with the students. Should you have a request or question, please write and submit it to the front desk.

- Aggressive or abusive behavior includes language (whether verbal or written) that may cause staff and/or students to feel afraid, threatened or abused and may include threats, personal verbal abuse, derogatory remarks and rudeness. The use of swear words in written or verbal communication will not be tolerated and these communications will not be responded to. Swearing at members of staff or students will not be tolerated. We also consider inflammatory statements, remarks of a racial or discriminatory nature and unsubstantiated allegations, to be abusive behavior.

- In order to reduce the risk of allergies and transmission of viruses, it is recommended that all students bring their own pencils and other necessary supplies to the class. Please note that electronic devices, cell phones, calculators, food and drinks are not allowed in the Centre.

Safety

- Parents of Early Learners are required to wait in the waiting area for the entire time that their child is attending class. Parents of all Kumon students are also encouraged to stay. If you leave the Centre, please ensure that you return before your child’s class work is completed. Each class session is usually between 20-30 minutes. The student must be dropped-off at the front door of the classroom at the start of their scheduled class. It is imperative for the safety of your child that the parent (or an authorized person) is available to collect the child from the entrance of the classroom near the door at the time their class ends. Please note that we are unable to provide supervision after the class ends.

We cannot account for your child’s whereabouts once he or she has left the classroom area.

Please inform Mrs. Farnaz Fararooee of any allergies, medical conditions or special needs that your child may have.

Attendance and Absence

- Remember to arrive at your scheduled time. Students might be asked to pick up work otherwise. If your child is unable to attend class, you may make arrangements to pick up the work from either the front desk or pick-up/drop-off box or it may be deferred until the next scheduled class day. The last 15 minutes of each class is for pick up only. Please note that make-up classes are not provided. We will do our best to accommodate based on availability. If you would like to make alternate arrangements, please contact Mrs. Farnaz Fararooee at (289) 317-0559 or email her at [email protected].

- The Centre is closed on statutory holidays. We are closed during March break and Christmas break and one week in summer. Any closure is communicated in advance via email. Work is provided as usual unless requested or communicated otherwise. We are unable to answer the phone/email during class hours.

- Please remember that Kumon is a year-round program of daily study. For best results, students are expected to remain in the program throughout the year and should include summer study in their plans. The program is portable and homework packages may easily be taken on vacation, with pre-arranging. There is no change in fees if you decide not to take work or if the student is not able to complete the work. We require at least 72 hours notice to prepare the work.

- The ongoing monthly tuition is automatically debited directly from your bank account on the 1st of every month. Please complete the attached pre-authorized debit agreement and submit it along with a void check (or a copy of the check) at the time of the enrolment.

The first month fee including enrolment and materials fees are collected by cheque or cash and are to be paid at the time of the enrolment. Tuition fees are pro-rated by half for the month in which a student joins the program on or after the 16th only for the first month.

Tuition is charged for the Kumon Method and the use of the worksheets, not the number of classes.

There will be no refund once the payment is processed.

A fee of $25 will be charged for NSF transactions. Tuition is not pro-rated for absences.

Important Reminders

- Parents are responsible to ensure their children do their homework on a daily basis and bring it to the Centre on time.

- Students should always have two sharpened pencils and one eraser in their Kumon bags. Students who work on digital copies should have a fully charged stylus pen and tablet with them.

Cancellation Policy

In the event you wish to stop your child’s studies at the Centre, written notice is required at least 30 days before the effective stop date. A 30-day notice is required for any requests such as payment changes, temporary or permanent cancellations, transfers, etc. According to Kumon North America, each student is permitted to be absent one month per calendar year. Absences longer or more frequent than this result in the student being discontinued from the program. Discontinued students will need to write a new placement test and will be required to pay the enrollment fee again upon re-enrollment, in addition to being subject to the tuition fees for new students.
