Welcome to Kumon! My name is Don, and I am the Owner and Primary Instructor at the Kumon Math and Reading Centre, St Laurent Blvd/Innes Rd. Before opening my Kumon Centre, I was a teacher with more than a decade of classroom experience. I have a Masters in Education, in which I focused my studies on best practices in different teaching approaches to foster better learning, regardless of learning ability. At the Kumon Math and Reading Centre, St Laurent Blvd/Innes Rd, not only do I intend to inspire students to master the fundamentals in Language and Math, my aim is to customize the learning experience to each individual student. Students will learn at their own pace while my team and I work hard to provide the academic and emotional support to keep them motivated and engaged with the Kumon curriculum.
I first crossed paths with Kumon as a student at one of the earliest centres on Montreal’s West Island. That was such a positive experience for me personally and academically that, as a parent, I enrolled my son at a centre here in Ottawa when he was just eight years old. He benefitted from his experience in so many ways – confidence and speed in math, problem-solving, and even his handwriting! He’s now in grade eleven and works at our centre on Saturdays. We are proof of how the Kumon methods set students up for success. As an instructor, I want to make sure my students have the same positive experiences my son and I have had. My goal is to motivate students to build a strong academic foundation and increase their confidence in their academic abilities. How? By building a strong partnership between my team at the centre and the students and their families.
Our centre is an inclusive and welcoming place, where all students and families are valued and respected. We recognize that learning is a journey, and that this journey is not identical for everyone. We are committed to our students’ academic success and we strive to give them tools to succeed, to celebrate their achievements and to help them build independence, resilience, and perseverance when faced with challenges. Our centre does more than work on learning the fundamentals – Kumon St Laurent Blvd/Innes Rd will go the extra mile to help students develop a lifelong love of learning.
