About the Centre

Introduction

Welcome to the Kumon Math and Reading Centre of Surrey-Strawberry Hill.

For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program,

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program,

Price and Fees

Our mission at Kumon is to bring the Kumon Method of Learning to as many students as possible, and therefore we keep our pricing reasonable for a wide range of parents and budgets.

There is no charge for placement testing, and we do not ask parents to pay a fee to learn the results of the test or orientation. There is a one-time registration fee and materials fee which will be discussed at the orientation. We generally start students in the program on the 1st or 16th of the month.

Monthly tuition prices are adjusted each year to cover the rising costs of providing our services. Please ask about our current rates during your orientation.

Policies

A detailed set of Kumon Centre policies is provided during the Orientation prior to enrollment. The basics which our management applies to all enrolled families include:

1- In-person and virtual classes are both held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Families can choose to attend either in-person or virtual classes depending on their preference. Students are expected to attend class on at least two days.

2 - Whether you are an athlete, musician or Kumon Math and Reading student, daily practice is essential for success. Homework is assigned at each student's "just-right" level, and should be completed, graded, timed and corrected daily.

3 - Successful progress in Kumon requires parents active supervision of daily work. Setting the right study environment, providing positive encouragement, and regularly observing the student will maximize the parent's return on investment.

4 - During class, we keep our focus on the students, so kindly keep any communications as brief as possible or, better yet, contact us during non-centre hours. We endeavour to respond to any emails or voicemails within one business day. Kindly note that we usually cannot answer phone calls during class hours.

5 - As much of our regular communication with parents is by email, we ask that parents ensure that we have their current and actively checked email addresses. Thank you!

6 - Student independence and self-learning are core principles of the Kumon Method of Learning which involves individualized study, not one-on-one tutoring.

7 - There is payment plan commitment; however, written notice along with suspension form filled and signed is required by the 15th of the month (45 days advance notice) to take a month off or stop Kumon enrollment at the end of the following month.
Policies pertaining to monthly tuition payments, parent expectations, student behaviour and other matters are provided during Orientation.
