About the Centre

Introduction

Welcome to the Kumon Math and Reading Centre of Thornhill - Dufferin Clark.

Our centre is conveniently located at the plaza at Dufferin and Clark intersection, within a walking distance from many local schools - Brownridge PS, St. Joseph the Worker CS, Charlton PS, Holy Family CES, Glen Shield PS, Our Lady of the Rosary CS, Vaughan SS, St. Elizabeth CHS, as well as many private schools of the area. Since our centre has opened at this location in 2011, we have built a strong positive relationship with families looking for a wider horizon in their children’s education.

We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program, click here.

Policies

Classwork and Homework. Students must attend class at their scheduled time slot (per subject) twice a week. They must arrive on time with their completed homework, two pencils and an eraser. Completed and corrected assignments are used to develop and modify each student’s individualized lesson plan, so it is imperative that students bring all completed or unfinished homework to the centre.

Continuity. Kumon is a long-term program that guides your child to success through daily work completion and continuous study. Upon enrollment, we would require you to keep your child in the program for at least 6 months without interruption so he or she can experience the full benefits of Kumon study. If a class is missed, we recommend that the work for that day and/or following days be picked up and completed at home to avoid unnecessary progress delay.

Vacation. If you are going on vacation, we encourage you to take Kumon with you. Please let us know the dates of your absence and the desired daily workload, and we will have your holiday package ready. At least a week’s notice is required.

Safety. Dufferin Clark Kumon Centre does not take any responsibility for students’ safety after they have completed their class work and leave the classroom. Parents must wait at the centre while their child is attending class. If the parents of older children wish to step out they must make sure that they are back before their child finishes their work.

Allergies and Health conditions. Please inform the Instructor if your child has any allergies or medical conditions that the Instructor should be aware of.

Communication. The Instructor must give her full attention to the students while in the classroom. She will not be able to speak to you during class hours. However, she would also like to hear from you. Your child’s progress is our highest priority. Please call or email the Centre to book an appointment time outside of the class hours.
