About the Centre

Introduction

Welcome to the Kumon Math and Reading Centre of West Vancouver. For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program.

Policies

Commitment Agreement

  • Kumon is a long-term program. Students are to remain enrolled in each subject for a minimum of one (1) year of study.
  • A minimum one full calendar month’s notice is required for withdrawal from the Kumon program.

Student Schedules
  • Students are encouraged to attend in-centre or virtual classes regularly once a week.
  • Students are to arrive according to their set weekly schedules and may be asked to wait or pick up their work to complete at home if there is no space available due to their late or early arrival. We will do our best to accommodate families who cannot make it to class at their scheduled time.
  • Any changes to students’ regular schedule need to be made, please contact us one week ahead to make arrangements. Schedule changes are subject to availability.

Vacation
  •  For longer periods of absence, please try your best to notify us at least one week prior so we can have sufficient time to plan and prepare work for your child to do during the absences.

Month-Long Absences
  • A minimum one full calendar month’s notice is required.
  • Only one month-long absence per calendar year is allowed according to Kumon North America policies. Month-long absences start on the 1st day of any given month.

Home Marking
  •  The best way you can help your child succeed in the Kumon program is by marking their daily homework and ensuring that they have completed any corrections they may have before they complete new homework for the next day. It takes approximately five minutes each day, yet the benefits are long-term. It helps students learn from their errors immediately and also helps parents become aware of their child’s strengths and weaknesses. To help you along with your home-marking, an answer key will be provided in each level.
