About Your Instructor
Nita Modi
My academic journey began with Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry and Biotechnology degree from the University of Waterloo. During my undergraduate program, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for Biology and Chemistry courses. This inspired me to pursue my career in Cancer Biology. In 2007, I graduated with a Masters degree from the University of Waterloo. Since my graduation, I have worked with several Professors at the University of Waterloo as a Research Associate, Lab Manager and as a Quality Control Manager. In each of these positions, my role interacted greatly with undergraduate students in assisting them in various areas of study, and physically training them with laboratory techniques gradually built up my interest in the education field.
My encouragement and inspiration towards education is a vital importance to me and to my family. As a mom of 2 Kumon Math & Reading program completers, I can say that Kumon was a major factor in developing my children’s work ethic and discipline. I am amazed by the progress, confidence and motivation they have gained by adapting and working with the Kumon Method.
My decision to pursue a career in education led me to open my first Kumon Centre in Cambridge 9 years ago. This experience has allowed me to share my passion with the Waterdown community. I am excited to work with the families of Waterdown, by not only assisting and inspiring them to learn but also keep them motivated with the goal of achieving success on their own.
Centre Manager - Mandini Gunasekara
I hold a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Toronto where I developed a deep appreciation for the importance of strong foundational skills in one’s academics. My journey in Kumon began during my second year of university when I took a part-time role as a Centre Assistant. Over the years, I’ve grown within the company and discovered how meaningful it is to be part of a student’s academic growth.
Our Instructor, Nita Modi, has been instrumental in my growth as an educator and as the manager of our Centre. Her experience, guidance, and unwavering support have helped me develop the skills necessary to lead and inspire our students. What drives me is seeing the progress students make over time — whether it's watching them master a tricky concept or helping them gain the confidence to tackle new challenges. Every day at Kumon, I have the opportunity to support students on their unique learning journey. It’s incredibly fulfilling to play a role in shaping academic futures. Under Nita’s mentorship, I’m excited to continue making a difference and helping students not just improve their skills but also develop a love of learning.
